It was okay

Pros

Staff are supportive, average hospital atmosphere. Pay is average for the area.

Cons

Scheduling nightmare. They do "self scheduling" but you rarely get what you picked. They do a 8/12 splits over a two week period which just means they schedule you for multiple days in a row with no consideration that you are a real human with basic work/life balance needs. Its scheduling from the stone age. There is no reason they can't provide set schedules outside of "hospital first" mentalities. Seriously disappointing. When are hospitals going to start treating employees like people?

Pros

My team was the best thing about the job

Cons

HR staff create toxic environment, take things out of context to fit their perceived scenario, and are blatantly dishonest; HR staff were not professional in their roles Medical benefits are limiting, only cover UPH clinics; based on how staff are evaluated and treated, would not trust healthcare from this company

Pros

doctors inhouse 24/7 easy to contact

Cons

The work environment can be very clicky. Little support staff. ICU 32 beds and you can have as little as 1 or 2 PCT to help.

Pros

Other Staff were great to work with and made for a positive environment to come into everyday.

Cons

Pay was very low, below market value as is unfortunately typical throughout healthcare fields in Iowa. Unity Point has made it clear that pay increases for nurses and staff will not be increased.

It used to be so much better

Pros

The money is getting better here; threats of the union coming in will only make it better.

Cons

The leadership does not follow the same rules as the staff does. Policy states they should be held to a higher standard, but experience says otherwise. UPH was better when it was Iowa Health Systems; now it's more corporate and not about the patients' or the staff's well-being.
