Pros

The position itself is very laid back. You literally are paid to hang out 1:1 with the patient you are assigned to all day. Easiest job I have ever had. The pay is very generous, given the minimal job expectations and responsibilities.

Cons

It gets very, very boring. It is definitely unfulfilling, as you are just sitting in a chair for 8-12 hours straight. You don’t feel like you did anything at the end of the day. Some patients can be verbally abusive or resentful about the fact you have to monitor them. Sometimes, you are watching someone sleep for your entire shift. This job is really ideal for someone who is not looking for a lot of responsibility and needs to utilize work time to work on personal tasks, such as a student, etc.

Pros

The team seemed fantastic. I completed three rounds of interviews with different members.

Cons

The offer was very low at $32.60 per hour. For comparison, similar positions with other non-profits that had comparable vacation and benefits plans for someone with my education and experience are between $10-15 per hour MORE. They weren’t open to negotiation. They said everything was standardized for equity across the organization; however, reports from other employees indicate that people in other positions with less experience and education are making far more per hour. SLPs need to demand better. We are in high demand right now.
