Pros

Good low-ranking co-workers (hardship makes everyone humble!)

Cons

The management doesn't care about employees. Regardless how hard we work, they just take it for granted. None of us have ever received any raise, ever. The management assumes that we are all magicians working here with magic wands and can do everything they want right now, with very limited resources! Well, we are not magicians but yes, a team of very talented people who do make things happen. But the sprit and enthusiasm has long gone since we can clearly see how much of a positive impact we all make for the company but in return, we get absolutely nothing but a cheap $5 reward certificate in company's annual gathering. This is more than an insult and definitely not a praise by any means. Another problem here is that the management is doing too much micro management. You surely don't want to work for a company where the top tier executive writes specs and forces you to make a product exactly the way he/she sees! This completely undermines the authority and necessity of the entire Product Development team. My advise to you is to go somewhere else where your hard work will be recognized and because you will be helping company's economy, the company will look out for your bank account as well! The situation here is getting worse by day. Most of the people I know of here are thinking about the move. Some of these people have already move to somewhere better, and these were not people who recently joined the company but with more than 10 years of service -- if that gives you any idea. Believe me, I am not someone working in HR or Marketing. I am in the Product Development and Innovation and I belong to a very elite group of employees with a very strong impact on one of Upland's mainstream product and Upland in general.

Poor management and culture

Pros

There are lots of challenges to keep you moving. There are really some great people overall.

Cons

Unfortunately, the challenges I mention above are often the result of poor planning or management asking for things outside of scope/schedule. Just because a company talks about "good culture" doesn't mean it knows how to actually foster it. Very, very little time and money is invested in the culture. Lots of lip-service. There is a big push for IPO, which is great but its seems like that is the primary push for upper management instead of working to improve the products in the eyes of customers. Also, features seem to be done just to say that Upland has them...not to actually provide value and focus on truly investing in the features.
