Pros

Few places of employment in Utica. Decent parking. Small gym on site. Heated building. Air conditioning. Vending machines for those with money.

Cons

Culture of bullying, back stabbing, intimidation, and dictatorial mindset of management. Company is run by a myopic buffoon who is a dim witted, greedy, short sighted bully. Promotions based on personal friendships. The company has lost money writing insurance for 8 straight years. Layoffs targeted toward experienced (and highest paid) employees a morale crusher.

Pros

They attract a lot of really great talent. The supervisors are great. Continued education is paid for by the company. Starting wages is competitive.

Cons

While I was there an office closed, a department in the main office was shut down, a few very large books of business were sold. This was the first company I worked for I really felt scared for my job since the financials and ratios were so bad. Benefits were drastically cut. Health insurance isn't great. Probably some of the worst management I've worked for. The upper management and executives are questionable at best, incompetent at worst. It started to be a running joke that a new vice president of something was hired every week. There are almost no promotional opportunities. An old UNIX based claims system is still being used for 80% of the work. It made an already stressful situation even more stressful.

Pros

benefits including health insurance, vacation, 401k, possibility of working from home, reorganizing could be a good or bad situation

Cons

expects night and weekends hours for salaried employees on a regular basis - not just a temporary situation; current management has little respect for employees and their expertise
