Pros

Watching students grow. Getting paid. These are the ONLY positives.

Cons

Company just delivered a nasty pay cut to the vast majority of teachers -- including old-timers like myself. Teachers have zero control over the number of bookings they get, and that number is EXACTLY *how much* you're paid relies on. Seeing as we're in the middle of a global pandemic, this is the worst possible timing. The company's practices have ALWAYS been dishonest and shady. You can count on large policy changes to come with layers of deep obfuscation. Teachers are blamed for everything that could possibly go wrong from student IT issues, to platform glitches, severe student behavioral problems, and more. The cancellation policy is punitive. The incentives that we earn can be subject to penalties for "unexcused" emergencies or illnesses -- legal wage-docking, to be frank. Complaints will go ignored. You will not be heard. Do not work here.

Not Loyal or Supportive of Teachers

Pros

Work from home, No minimum amount of classes to teach

Cons

VIPKID is going downhill fast with regards to teachers and teacher relationships. They are not loyal or supportive of their teachers. They will almost always give the teacher a ding on their record or a pay deduction and will not reverse their decision. They recently announced a new pay structure for all teachers, even veteran teachers that results in a pay decrease unless you teach about 200 classes a month and are at a certain 'tier'. This is a slap in the face to the teachers who help build this company and have been around for 3, 4, 5 years. We do not deserve this! Many of us hold secondary positions with the company and the hours put into training, holding mock classes, and workshops do not count toward our tier or pay level at all. They also announced they will no give raises at all. The teacher are not feeling valued and many are planing to significantly decrease work with the company or leave all together.
