Pay Cut

Pros

Students are great, materials are prepared

Cons

We all just got a pay cut. VIPKID advertises that you can work as much or a little as you like. However, they have just released a new payment structure that will result in a significant pay cut for any part time teacher. They have also removed the opportunity to earn a raise in base pay.

Pros

Flexible hours. For the most part, it’s fun to teach and the students are great.

Cons

I've been with the company for almost 2 1/2 years. The morale has gotten worse and worse. It's a company with thousands of employees that the higher-ups never see in person. They say that they care about us, but it doesn't seem like they do. We are independent contractors but have to follow strict rules that make us more like employees but without the benefits. They have hired way too many teachers, making it so that their loyal teachers are no longer able to get enough classes booked. Most recently, they have implemented a new pay policy where teachers that have been loyal to the company for months or years will be getting a pay cut. The pay cut is not based on job performance...it's just there new policy. Many teachers are looking to jump ship since they feel undervalued with the new pay system. They are also raising the price per class for the parents while paying us less. I don't know if the company is becoming greedy or if they are in financial trouble. Either way, a year ago, even 6 months ago, I would have recommended this company to anyone who loves teaching. Now, I will warn anyone off who asks me about it, even though I'd make an incentive if I got someone to become a teacher. I can't in good conscience refer people to this company any longer.

Pros

make your own schedule: connect with kids and families

Cons

Constant changes that are not favorable to teachers such as incentives, token system and points fingers to teachers first instead of student IT problems or system failures which result in pay deductions
