Pros

1. Excellent respect for work-life balance 2. Generally has good insight into properly doing Agile (though clients can sabotage this). 3. Have some excellent, technically savvy, consultants

Cons

1. Lack of vision; way too reactionary to market trends 2. Knee-jerk reactions (Hire lots of college grads, then blame them for project failures and fire then all at once; Hire a bunch of Senior VPs and fire them a few months later, then a few reappear again another month later) 3. Murky requirements for promotions and reluctance to promote 4. Basically the offshore model on-shore; most projects just maintenance work or small enhancements that could be done in India; not many real consulting projects 5. Pricing model still in flux, with lack of profits 6. Lack of projects due to recessionary environment 7. Projects that could be profitable are not due to questionable personnel decisions and over-staffing 8. Lack of accountability - laziness and incompetence not quickly confronted and re-mediated

Pros

Valtech used to have a lot of really bright technical people. They used to foster an agile environment that was ideal for easily collaborating as a team, and educating junior team members about new technologies. They also had competitive salaries, and good perks (video games in break room, free snacks and coffee, 3 weeks of vacation to start out).

Cons

Senior management has completely decimated the US organization. The business strategy is nebulous and changes from year to year (Doom Loop). Management has always struggled to properly staff projects due to an unpredictable sales pipeline. This has often resulted in projects being understaffed, or some resources being under-utilized/benched for too long. Also, right now Valtech has been laying off all resources they can't staff to cut costs. Also, all bonuses have been indefinitely suspended, and quarterly reviews have been discontinued.

Pros

Valtech is a vocal proponent of Agile techniques. This means that when you can use them, they have people who know a thing or two about working in an Agile fashion. By far the best thing about Valtech has historically been the people. They have generally good technologists and a good process for interviewing new ones.

Cons

The lack of a real strategy causes large variations between projects. Everyone ends up out for themselves and each sales person sells whatever they think will get the client to sign. When it comes to it, there is no management support for being truly transparent with clients despite statements to the contrary.
