Pros

The insurance is decent if you see Vanderbilt doctors. Also, if you aren't very bright and/or don't care to do work in exchange for your paycheck, you'll fit right in here. It's impossible to get fired, they will just transfer you around from department to department for 20 years.

Cons

Among the disappoints of working with Vanderbilt, one of the biggest is that they try to make money off their employees. They send you on a work trip, but deny your expenses. They charge you to come to work and park your car. In a parking garage. at your office building where they have leased space. Who does that??!

Pros

My co-workers are great- Every single one of them is a team player. Another pro is that they give us a turkey at Christmas, lol.

Cons

Vanderbilt is by far the most employee-unfriendly place I have ever worked. It is notorious for its low pay, and it's the only place I've ever known of that requires its employees to pay to park for the "privilege" of working for them. In the past 5 years, we have received only 2 very tiny raises (the last one was just enough to cover their rate increase for parking). At the same time, they have continually cut our benefits. If there were any other research hospital in the area that had jobs available, I believe just about all of my co-workers would leave.

Pros

Magnet Hospital - is a resume booster

Cons

If you’re a person of color, you won’t find many people that look like you especially in the ICU on staff or upward in management The culture is driven with fragility and microagressions If you don’t assimilate, you will be on an island on your own - making it hard for you to get asked for any advanced training You have to keep your head on a swivel and speak up for yourself - keep a written record They pick and choose who and when to enforce policies - some they make up on the fly
