VCH was a very rewarding place to work. Long hours, but that is true of any hospital

Pros

Connection with the patients is outstanding -- VCH provides a lot of support for both children and their families, especially during difficult times. Great community atmosphere

Cons

Seems to be a difficult time of transition for the hospital at the moment. A lot of turn over in senior management that seems to have upset staff

Pros

Generous benefits, respect of the community, ranked 15th of academic institutions getting NIH grants (in amounts received), in the clinical sciences department-a real feeling of camaraderie and unified purpose.

Cons

Still a small town, small-time atmosphere in some ways, can be very insular particularly with non-Southerners, the pressure for career advancement can make some people do awful things.
