Pros

Everyone is pleasant to work with and teamwork seems to be in the blood of this company. People are thoughtfully hired and it shows in the dynamics of the office and within teams. Not an ounce of drama or dysfunction noticeable, and this company is pretty transparent about the company to boot. Vital Farms has a strong culture and commitment to ethical food, which DOES really give you something to believe in on-the-job. There are a couple of okay workplace perks: free Wednesday lunch, free eggs quarterly, and free parking. Basic medical/dental/vision is decent, but not excellent, and there is performance bonus payout for some.

Cons

There are some archaic aspects to Vital Farms...the benefits and PTO accrual. Medical/dental/vision is company-supported, not 100% paid for the employee, which is very old school for Austin so expect to spend a few hundred a month on coverage. If you're not in a managerial position, your PTO accrual is very limited at 4 hours per pay period (1 day per month), and there is no sick leave. Paid holidays are also very limited...Christmas Day only, New Years Day only, Thanksgiving Day only, and you won't be released early around the holidays or given a "freebie" day on NYE or Christmas Eve for example. As cohesive as this company is, these policies inadvertently send the message that employees are not entrusted to manage their time efficiently to get their work done, but must keep to a rigid schedule with little regard for work-life balance.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review! We are committed to hiring the right people for the right role on our Crew, and are delighted to hear that this has created a positive and collaborative experience for you. I hope you've left a suggestion on the board for Crew lunches on Wednesday - we love requests! We also appreciate for your candid feedback on our benefits and time off policies. Vital Farms is headquartered in Austin with our production facility, and a large portion of our workforce, in Springfield, MO. In implementing time off and holiday policies, we must balance the need to meet our production quotas with meeting the needs of our Crew. That said, we appreciate the need to continuously review and enhance policies and offerings, and provide more clarity to Crew. Our HR team is making this a priority in 2020. We have new HR Director who will be taking a look at our benefits offerings, benchmarking against the market, and talking with the crew about your needs. If you have specific feedback on our benefits, please reach out directly to the HR team. Stay tuned for updates, and keep the feedback coming!
