Pros

WM is a multinational corporation. I can only speak about what I've seen at the sites where I worked. The wages are a little better than other trash companies in the area, and good benefits. Also, if life takes you somewhere else it's easy to transfer to another site.

Cons

WM is a multinational corporation. I can only speak about what I've seen at the sites where I worked. In the last 10 years I have only experienced a few short periods where the site was fully staffed. Management drives employees away. If fully staffed, and everyone shows, people will be sent home without pay. When short staffed management will move people and trucks around at a whim and require overtime. HR literally said "You are ours for 60 hours a week." and have disciplined employees for not doing more than the routes they signed up for. If you call off sick you may be required to work a Saturday and get points against you for calling off on Saturday. It would also be nice if you had the time to use the benefits you earn.

Good experience to work for a fortune 500 company

Cons

Culture, comp, innovation - all lacking. Definite boys club.

Pros

The job is relatively easy once you learn all the proprietary systems. The learning curve is the only read hard part. Benefits are solid and probably the best thing, nice 401k matching. Tuition assistance is there too. As far as career advancement, if you are interested in operations you should be able to get an opportunity there within a few years if you are good at what you're doing.

Cons

Pay structure leaves too much to be desired. 2% base pay raise per year, whether you are the best at what you do or the worst. Low incentive to be amazing. This will leave you lagging behind new people getting hired, as I have recently learned. They will outpace you in pay while being less experienced, and that is objectively bad business. Also mandatory rotated Saturdays and occasional holidays. Not great for work/life balance when you end up with a 5am Saturday shift that pretty much erases your weekend.
