Pros

- Relatively relaxed working atmosphere (however, that seems to be changing...) - Good work benefits (healthcare, dental, etc.) - Great coworkers (aside from majority of management; who could care less about you)

Cons

- TRC (Threat Research Center) gets treated like trash - Terrible compensation (REALLY crappy pay) - Expected to do more work, for no change in pay - False hope for advancement (no room for growth despite what upper management claims) - Internal Politics - Internal tools are far from perfect, even after dumping tons of resources into development for well over a year - Manpower being outsourced due to the fact that company is stingy on paying Santa Clara employees a fair amount

Company doesn't know what it wants to do

Pros

1. Relaxed work environment in the Threat Research Center(TRC). 2. There is opportunity to learn, just don't expect the company to appreciate you learning new things.

Cons

1. Awful salary after several years - In the TRC you start low which makes sense, but after a few years don't expect to have a livable wage in The Bay Area. Your salary isn't tied to how well you do, it's how well liked you are by upper management. In TRC it seems one has to be apart of a certain clique in order to reap the benefits of pay. 2. You are not valued in the slightest - Despite the department telling you the opposite, they want you to leave the TRC after two years. It doesn't matter if you're a value to the TRC, if you aren't friends with the right people they don't want you to stay. The company is now facing the dilemma that talented employees want more pay instead of leaving. It is apparent upper management has never had to deal with this before, and does not know how to handle this situation. 3. Terrible upper management - The management in TRC is atrocious at the top. It seems they sit back and do nothing. Employees who come up with great ideas that would improve TRC are laughed out of the room. Employees have been told how bad an idea is and on many occasions have had their idea stolen. For example, an upper manager will come up with this "new" idea (the same one that somebody else was told "wouldn't work") and push it out into the department. They then will take credit for the idea without having to acknowledge the original person. 4. TRC is efficient, rest of company is not - TRC knows what it wants to do and continuously works towards this goal. The rest of the company has no idea what it's doing and has no vision: a. Customer Support is a mess of misinformation and confusion b. Marketing has no idea what it's doing c. Development was a massive liability until recently d. Sales does not care about margins, only gross. This continuously hurts the company by the awful deals they make, which in turn costs the company profit.

The slow spiral of decline

Pros

WhiteHat has a great open work environment. Benefits are standard, but an open/unlimited PTO policy. Salaries are average to slightly low.

Cons

There's been horrible attrition from the top to the bottom. What has replaced the leadership team who left has not been good. The company is constantly stumbling as it struggles to survive. Meanwhile workloads increase as losses due to both attrition and layoffs are not replaced. Stress is up and job satisfaction on a steep decline.
