Fun place to work

Pros

The company events, parties, and general culture make it a fun place to work. The policy decisions also illustrate that WillowTree cares about it's employees.

Cons

The pay seems a little low, especially as companies in NY and CA are starting to compete with 100% remote positions.

Pros

- Very strong emphasis on being inclusive and diverse - Very open about how the business is doing, updates are given on a bi-weekly basis along with newsletters - CEO is fine with employees posting their salaries on Slack to help reduce pay gaps and pay disparities - The work is fun and rewarding - Flexible PTO policy - Great offices - Good work/life balance

Cons

- Pay could always be higher - I have been working at willowtree for a few months and have not found any cons really

A great experience so far

Pros

- Transparent leadership that has kept us in the loop every step of the way during the Covid crisis. The company has encouraged employee input about crucial decisions and demonstrated where it was incorporated. It’s a business, not a commune, so while of course there are decisions I wish had played out differently, I understand that not everything can be rainbows and sunshine and exactly the way I want it to be. Out of all the places I worked WillowTree excels the most at communicating change and acting on feedback from employees. - I work in a role that spans multiple projects, so get exposure to many clients, colleagues, and working styles. Every project experience is the sum of the people who work on it and how they work with the client. So far most of my experiences have been positive and enjoyable. When projects have been stressful or challenging I still feel respected and valued by my team members. - personally I think that pay and benefits are very good (healthcare fully covered, matching 401k) but in my previous roles I was underpaid and had terrible healthcare so it might be a matter of perspective.

Cons

- although all my client and project experiences have been positive I have several colleagues who ended up working on teams with aggressive and micromanaging team leadership or toxic clients. My good experiences don’t invalidate the negative ones shared here. While I believe WT has the channels to communicate this & escalate issues, it can be a challenging aspect of agency work and likely hard for more junior team members to speak up and get the help they need - The company will see a lot of attrition in the coming months with their commitment to a hybrid working environment. This could lead to unstable projects, leadership vacuums, or short staffing. I hope leadership is prepared for this but I’m a little worried.

Thanks for this review and all the specifics, and very much appreciate your take on how we try to be transparent but cannot please everyone all the time on some of the COVID related policy decisions. Also appreciate the focus on how we need to make the hybrid experience amazing and we are highly focused on that. Please shoot any ideas you have on this over to me as we 100% agree that half in person/half remote meetings are worse than all remote....Best, Tobias
