Pros

Independently owned Woodcraft franchise with owner on the premises daily. Mostly good customers, good coworkers, easy work if you are or have been a woodworker and know how the products are used. It's nice to help people with their projects. Quarterly bonus.

Cons

Minimum wage for specialized knowledge. It's a revolving door. Anyone can and does get fired at the drop of a hat. Only one employee still remains from the crew of three years ago. Fear based. No recognition for anything you do well. In fact, the owner might cut you down to size if you're proud of anything you've done for the store. Your bonus gets taken away on a whim. I lost 2 bonuses. There is no job security, no matter how well you perform or what special thing you contribute. The owner uses trumped up charges for dismissal if real ones can't be found. He can turn on a dime from friendly to mean.

Pros

All of the employees have a passion for woodworking and they enjoy working with each other. This is a destination store and customers generally enjoy shopping here.

Cons

Company is micromanaged by owners who live 3000 miles away. Working environment is negatively impacted by owners watching on in-store cameras and not understanding what it is like to work in this type of specialized retail environment on a day-to-day basic for an extended period of time.

Pros

You get to help other woodworkers learn new skills and you receive an employee discount on items you purchase for yourself. This is a good job for a retired person looking for a place to go who doesn't need the income.

Cons

Minimum wage salary with no increases, ever. Store prices are high, and some items, even with discount applied, can be found for less through other sources.
