Pros

If office experience is a priority to you, Workhuman will be a great fit. You can enjoy free lunch, premium espresso, and a golf simulator in between checking Slack to see if more of your colleagues have been laid off.

Cons

Sarcasm aside, the outward face of Workhuman and the inner workings are two very different things. Go to Workhuman Live and you will hear all about building a great employee culture and valuing your employees. None of this is practiced at the company itself. It’s a complete lie. And after a while, living that lie starts to wear on you as an employee. There is a culture of bullying that comes straight from the top. You are either in the inner circle or you are not. You constantly feel like you are under a microscope and with one wrong move, you could be gone. But then ironically, others are allowed to glide for years with no accountability. They keep having layoffs, both large scale and silent, when they could make practical cuts and implement basic cost savings. For example, they still serve hot buffet lunches in the office every week and spend thousands on employee events, while then cutting bonuses and freezing hiring for much needed positions. They built an over the top, extravagant, way too large office in between two huge layoffs. Free food and a cool space is nice, but it gets old when you haven’t had a meaningful raise in 5 years and don’t have the people or tools to do your job. The message this sends to employees is that leadership does not care about employees, only their own egos and outward image. There is a completely toxic environment where there is no trust. Leaders of different departments are clearly at odds and protecting their own teams, which kills any real collaboration or progress. This is probably most prevalent between the Product and Engineering teams, who should be in lock step. Instead, it’s a huge battle to get even the smallest piece of functionality shipped and the quality suffers. It doesn’t help that senior leadership is constantly redirecting the road map to their latest whim. Ironically, for a company that preaches about psychological safety, there is none at Workhuman. Those who speak up or dissent with senior-most leadership are gone immediately. People simply trying to stand up and do the right thing by customers and their colleagues. That fear is noted and people stay silent. It’s a shame because it used to be a very special place where people truly cared about each other, but now it’s just a bunch of leadership infighting and toxicity.

Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. It's clear your experience was frustrating, and we appreciate your candor. While we recognize that periods of change, organizational evolution, and difficult business decisions can create uncertainty and strong emotions, we don't believe this review reflects the experience of many employees across Workhuman today. Our employee listening efforts and current employer value proposition research consistently show that many employees feel connected to our mission, supported by their teams, and motivated by the impact of their work. That doesn't mean every experience is positive or that we always get things right. As our business continues to mature, we are actively working to strengthen accountability, collaboration, leadership effectiveness, and the employee experience across the organization. We appreciate the constructive elements of your feedback, particularly around alignment, empowerment, and recognizing strong contributions. We remain committed to building a workplace where people can do meaningful work, grow their careers, and have their voices heard. We wish you the very best in your next chapter.

We're building stronger internal mobility and career development frameworks aligned to our new skills-based job architecture, with the goal of creating greater clarity around growth opportunities and career paths across the organization. We also recognize that development doesn't always mean promotion. Meaningful growth can take many forms, including expanding skills, taking on new challenges, gaining broader experiences, and pursuing opportunities across teams. Our focus is on helping employees build long-term careers while ensuring advancement decisions are fair, transparent, and aligned to business needs. We appreciate your perspective and hope you see the value in the programs we will be rolling out through 2026.

Pros

The company offers strong compensation and good employee perks, and there are many talented and hardworking people across the organisation. However, the leadership culture creates significant operational and people-related challenges.

Cons

Decision-making is highly top-down, with major organisational and team decisions often made without involving the managers or teams who have direct operational knowledge or understanding of day-to-day realities. This frequently leads to unnecessary disruption, shifting priorities and reduced trust within teams. There also appears to be a lack of mature leadership capability at senior levels. Some directors seem insufficiently experienced for the complexity of the organisation, while strategic direction is heavily centralised around the CEO. Senior leaders tend to align with decisions rather than constructively challenge them, which can limit healthy debate and balanced decision-making. Engineering teams are generally well compensated, but workloads can be excessive and sustained pressure appears to be normalised. Burnout and stress-related absence are common, and while wellbeing is discussed, the operational culture does not consistently support sustainable working practices in reality. The company may suit people who thrive in fast-moving, high-pressure environments and are primarily motivated by compensation and benefits. However, for those seeking psychologically safe leadership, operational maturity, collaborative decision-making and sustainable pace, it may not be the best long-term fit.

Thank you for taking the time to share your perspective and for recognizing the talented people, compensation, and benefits that are part of the employee experience at Workhuman. As our business continues to evolve and mature, we recognize the importance of balancing speed, alignment, and effective decision-making. Growth and change can sometimes create challenges around communication, prioritization, and how decisions are experienced across the organization. We are working to address and support our humans in these areas. While we have grown into a global enterprise business, we remain committed to operating with agility and moving quickly in response to our customers and the market. That pace can create complexity and may not suit everyone's preferred way of working, but we believe it is an important part of how we continue to innovate and deliver impact. We also know that sustainable performance matters. While many employees are energized by the pace and opportunity to influence meaningful work, we remain focused on creating an environment where people can grow, contribute, and do their best work over the long term. We appreciate your feedback and hope you get to see the change as we continue to mature as an organization.
