Great Company, Horrible Cliques

Pros

Decent Benefits. A few good people. That's about it. I never felt stressed about taking PTO and they very often were incredibly flexible with work/life balance.

Cons

There is a ton of complaining, and little progress. People do like to complain, yet no one takes action. Upper management is completely disconnected from the people that help build up their company and keep it on it's feet. If you're even remotely disagree with anything that is passed down, they will terminate your employment. In my tenure at the company, I watched as people who were trying to make a difference, were terminated one after another. The culture is toxic. The development team tries to remedy this by having someone act as a liaison in-between, but when that individual dislikes disagreement, rather than communicate, they'd rather lie their way into a termination. Performance reviews are a joke. I went through one of my most recent review, and was told there were some areas for improvement, but overall I was in great standing. I performed my job to it's fullest, completed all tasks assigned, and often added additional work to each sprint which was completed. On my termination day, I was told that I was being let go for performance reasons. That completely blind-sided me, especially since for the year I had already committed 1500+ times, which is provable by github. I had meticulously tracked every single thing I worked on. By all accounts, I was fully involved and performing as expected and paid. The person doing the termination.... less than 150 commits for the year. The other Team Lead, holding the same position as the one terminating, 2000+. If that isn't obvious personal issues coming to the forefront, I don't know what is. Communication, and complaint options don't exist. I attempted to go forward to other management about the interpersonal issues I was having, it just ended up with a termination. I guess it's easier for them to rotate the doors than to solve internal issues. After proving that performance wasn't an issue, their story changed to my moonlighting job, and they stated that was against policy. Convenient to bring that up after you realize you're wrong about performance, but if you're wrong about performance then how does a moonlight gig interfere?

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your experience at accesso. We appreciate your detailed review as we take your concerns very seriously. We are glad to hear that you found our benefits package to be decent and that you were able to enjoy a good work/life balance while you were with us. However, we are sorry to hear that you felt the culture was toxic and that there were communication issues between upper management and employees. We are committed to fostering a positive and inclusive workplace environment for all of our employees, and will investigate your concerns for opportunities to better improve our culture and communication channels. Regarding your termination, we want to assure you that our decisions are always based on performance and policy, we do not make decisions based on personal issues. We understand that you have concerns on reasons for your termination, and we encourage you to reach out to our HR team should you wish to discuss this further. We appreciate your suggestions on how we can improve as a company, and we will take them into consideration as we move forward. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors.

Pros

Very colorful office…that’s about it.

Cons

Terrible organization. Very clique-y, weren’t willing to work with employees to improve weaknesses. Being on call makes it feel like you literally never stop working, especially if you’re assigned to a busy park. And btw, very, very underpaid. Avoid the place like the plague. This was my first job out of college and I didn’t realize how bad it was until I left.

We are so sorry to hear that you did not feel supported in improving your weaknesses on our team. accesso values an environment with open access to all of its leaders where critical feedback can be shared. Leaders have the expectation to have one-on-one feedback sessions with their team members and provide the necessary tools for team members to be successful. In the rare occasion, if employees are not comfortable sharing with their leaders, we have a welcoming and understanding HR Department that can help mitigate these types of concerns. While there is an on-call expectation for this position, our company strives to ensure our team members are able to balance their work lives with their personal lives. I wish we could have had the chance to discuss some of these pain points prior to your departure so that we could have improved some of these issues for you. However, if you ever do want to discuss these concerns further, we are still happy to talk through them.
