Pros

There's still a lot of competent people there that could perform well if there was a clear vision and a plan on how to get there.

Cons

There's a lot of people leaving the company now, some just get tired and find something else, others are getting laid off. There is a clear lack of direction. The product appears to be stagnating because the product team's vision is either absent or not communicated to developers. Meetings with management are filled with vague buzzwords, when clarification is requested, it becomes evident that there is no shared understanding of what we should be focusing on. Priorities change constantly. Work is often canceled mid-initiative, leaving teams unable to complete what they started. Citing "rapidly changing landscapes" feels like an excuse rather than a justification and suggests poor planning and an absence of clear decision-making. Employees are now required to be in the office most of the time, yet the offices are not adequately equipped to support the increased number of people working onsite.

Thanks for sharing your feedback with us. Though it’s difficult to hear, feedback like this helps us understand where we can improve in the future. We acknowledge that given the rapid change in technological advancements in our industry, it can feel like we aren’t aligned on direction. In reality, that’s far from the truth - we’ve positioned our product priorities to align with the market and redefined our go-to-market motion to ensure success well into the future. These changes have resulted in strong momentum with both current customers and prospects. Regarding return-to-office, this was a decision that was made at the end of 2024 and communicated months in advance. While the vast majority of our offices were set up for a successful return, the growth in other offices have required us to expand our real estate footprint, which we are currently in the process of. We’re confident that these changes will further allow our commercetoolers to thrive in their hubs surrounded by their colleagues.

We understand why the last several months have felt frustrating, and we appreciate you being direct about your experience. We want to clarify one point in your review. Revenue is not declining year over year. While we’ve made deliberate changes to how we focus the business and where we invest, we remain financially stable and are on track against several key financial targets this year. That said, we recognize that restructuring, benefit changes, and leadership shifts can still create uncertainty, regardless of the underlying business performance. We also acknowledge that changes in leadership bring different leadership styles, and those shifts can affect culture, trust, and how direction is perceived. When clarity around priorities or product strategy isn’t landing, that’s feedback we take seriously. Strengthening communication, alignment, and transparency is an ongoing focus. The strength of our teams is something we value deeply, and feedback like this helps us understand where we need to do better. Thank you again for taking the time to share your perspective.

Pros

Only the colleagues in engineering

Cons

Leadership: Very poor leadership at the top. The CEO and founder display strong narcissistic tendencies, which negatively influence the entire organization and cascade down through all levels of management. Management Transparency: Middle management is sneaky and non-transparent, making trust and open communication extremely difficult. Layoffs & Job Security: Frequent and sudden layoffs with little to no warning. The most recent round happened just before Christmas, seemingly to make year-end numbers look better. This creates constant anxiety and instability. Employee Benefits: Benefits have been gradually reduced over the past 1–2 years in what feels like a deliberate attempt to push employees to quit quietly rather than address issues directly. Product Direction: There is no clear or coherent product vision, leading to wasted effort and confusion across teams.

Thank you for taking the time to share this feedback. We’re genuinely sorry to hear how this has felt from your perspective, and we don’t take comments like this lightly. Over the past 18 months, the market, customer expectations, and buying behavior have changed quickly and in real ways. Like many companies in our space, we’ve had to adjust our structure, priorities, and operating model in real time to stay aligned with where the market is going. Those changes were not a reflection of our financial stability. In fact, we’re on track to meet several of our financial targets this year. Still, we recognize that restructuring and benefit changes create uncertainty and stress, and that impact is real for employees. We also acknowledge that changes in leadership naturally bring changes in leadership style. When that happens, culture can feel unsettled, and trust can be tested. That tension is something we’re aware of and actively working through, not ignoring. We know that transparency, clarity, and consistency matter, especially during periods of change, and we have more work to do there. Your point about direction and communication is heard. Establishing clarity around product vision, priorities, and how teams connect to that direction is a focus for us moving forward. We appreciate you calling out the strength of the engineering team and your colleagues. Feedback like this helps us reflect honestly on where we need to improve, and we hope we can continue to move forward in good faith by listening, learning, and doing better. Thank you again for sharing your experience.
