Your Job Is Not Safe

Pros

Nice office in downtown Toronto

Cons

They have started firing people left and right in customer service. People dont know why these people were fired and are surprised at whats happening. Your job is not safe here even if you do a good job. If they don't like you then they will get rid of you.

Thank you for taking the time to express your concerns. At times the business needs to make difficult decisions to end an employee’s employment. Recently, a few individuals were affected. We do not take these decisions lightly and we do not disclose details around an employee’s exit, as these details are confidential. We do however, take into consideration all aspects of the employee’s history before the final outcome is decided. To summarize on a positive note, we are a growing team and scaling the Support Department to ensure we continue to provide great customer experiences. We are currently promoting enthusiastic, positive, high performing people within the department and continue to look for great people to join our highly regarded Customer Service team.

Pros

The atmosphere is one of consistent progression. This isn't a place that tries to move at a high rate of speed and then tries to recover from the inevitable wipeout. The company moves in a way where they consistently move in the right direction and course correct when new information is found. The technology group is working towards being a more efficient organization and the customer service team is top notch. The business is healthy and is continuing to grow at a fantastic rate. The people are generally nice which is pretty much par for the course.

Cons

There are political battles being waged within upper management and the whole company isn't always aligned on company wide initiatives. Overall education and training for individual employees related to preparing them for large company changes is lacking. The agile process and training are both immature when it comes to individual teams though this has been identified as an issue and steps are being taken to correct it. This was a hardware company that is expanding into more software offerings and is currently having a difficult time making the transition.

Thank you for your honest feedback about your time at ecobee! Really happy to hear you’ve met some great fellow ecopeeps! We take pride in knowing that our goals and direction are data driven with the ability to pivot and iterate as needed. We are growing quite quickly and are working closely with our managers and leadership team to ensure that all of our teams are transparent, always learning and working towards the same goals. We made the switch to working agile in the summer of 2017 and while it was a great move for ecobee’s development, we admit that the transition was a bit rocky! We are constantly learning and looking to improve how we do things and have taken note of the feedback from this transition in order to make future changes smoother within the organization. Also, with the addition of an agile coaching team, we hope that our Development teams are feeling better supported and prepared to continue with the transition. Our product roadmap is pretty exciting, and as we expand our product offering we are focused on talent development and ensuring our leaders are well prepared for what is ahead. Our team is dedicated to continually improving and creating a great place to work for all of our employees, so we thank you for your feedback that will allow us to continue to do that.

Pros

-The company is a nice size where you can see a genuine impact in what you are doing vs a large company were you are lost in the shuffle. - People are really smart, collaborative, and passionate about their work. - A ton of learning opportunities (training budget 1500/year is sweet) - Investing in management training - I believe in the C level staff and managers- they are transparent about their plans and genuinley care -Work life balance is in place

Cons

Ecobee grew rapidly in size, and with that comes change- which isn't really a con but expected. Management seems to be taking feedback on what needs to be changed and implementing solutions (ie management training days, creating a career path for employees, more recognition). We aren't perfect but working towards getting better.
