Innovation is key to reimagining the future of child health and wellbeing; yet there’s a severe lack of funding in pediatrics, with less than 2% of health care innovation dollars being dedicated to pediatrics. Children’s is actively working to bridge this gap with creative ideas, like our new competition: the Innovation Cup. The Innovation Cup is a unique call to action for our team members to revolutionize the very core of our hospital experience and help shape the future of pediatric health care. Hear from our Chief Information & Innovation Officer, Jerry Vuchak, on this new strategy.

At Children’s Nebraska, our People First Promise is the foundation of our culture, anchored in five intentional pillars: Purpose, Belonging, Joy, Learning & Growth and Wellbeing. We are committed to continuous improvement in these key areas and, to kick off 2024, Children’s is expanding its Wellbeing offerings with exciting new enhancements that include: - Biometric screening during the annual compliance review will now include Chem 14, Lipid Panel and CBC. - WeThrive Wellbeing offerings are expanding to include health coaching. Health coaching includes, but is not limited to, lab result review and recommendations, weight management, stress management, sleep, nutrition, activity and life balance. Team members receive up to five free visits to support and empower them in all areas of life to increase happiness, healthiness and wholeness. - Children’s is introducing a virtual therapy program, called SWORD, for team members, spouses and qualified dependents on Children’s medical plan. SWORD allows team members to focus on their health and wellbeing from the comfort of their home, combining physical therapists with easy-to-use technology to overcome back, joint and muscle pain. - X-ray services will now be offered as an extension of treatment through CARE4U for acute injury and illness. Children’s will continue to bring unique, People First programs and offerings to our team. The Wellbeing team looks forward to supporting this work & continuing to offer more enhancements.
Wellbeing is a key priority of our People First culture at Children’s Nebraska. Hear from our Chief People Officer, Janel Allen, as she sits down with Becker's Healthcare to discuss some of the unique ways we’re prioritizing and investing in team members' wellbeing.

Our Journey to Children's Nebraska, and Why Now?

Meet Dania, a dreamer, advocate, first-generation high school and college graduate and nurse in Children’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). As a former Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipient, Dania faced certain professional restrictions. This executive order allowed young immigrants to obtain a social security number and work permit, but not a driver’s, professional or commercial license. Determined to pursue her passion for nursing, this hurdle initiated Dania’s journey of political activism. Dania has testified at the Nebraska State Capitol Building and on Capitol Hill on behalf of LB 623 and LB 947, both of which became laws in Nebraska in 2015 and 2016 – changing the lives of young immigrants across our state. After graduating from the College of St. Mary in 2019, Dania joined the nurse residency program at Children’s and has been a valued member of our PICU team ever since. “It was a long journey, but my patients always remind me of why I fought so hard to get here,” Dania says. “I’m proud to be a nurse and just want to be the best possible nurse for my patients and coworkers. My career is so meaningful to me, and it means a lot to have been a part of this fight, helping others get to pursue the career of their dreams too.” We’re grateful to have people like Dania powering our mission to improve the life of every child. Dania, your passion and dedication are an inspiration to us all – and an asset to our organization.
