Children’s Hosts Jesuit Academy Middle School Students On April 26, Children’s Talent Outreach team had the opportunity to host 15 middle school youth from the local Jesuit Academy. Students were onsite for a morning of immersive learning and heard from team members in Pediatric Nursing, Respiratory Therapy and 3D Imaging and Printing. Each presenter shared what a day in the life of their role looks like and engaged the students in different hands-on learning activities. After hearing from the Jesuit Academy advisors, it sounds like the day sparked a few dreams of health care careers in their students.
Congratulations to Children’s on being selected as Nebraska’s Safest Company Award winner! This marks the 20th year that Children’s has been recognized for this achievement. Safest Company Award applications are judged on submitted safety logs and implemented safety programs. Using a weighted average from the past three years, the scores are compared to like organizations based on the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code. Safest Company winners will be honored at the National Safety Council Nebraska Chapter’s Celebration of Safety Award luncheon on Monday, May 15.
Masks Optional at Children’s Starting April 3 Effective April 3rd, 2023, masking is no longer required on Children’s campuses, with some exceptions, for patients, visitors, team members, volunteers and vendors. Children’s Introduces PTO Donation Fund A PTO donation fund is being introduced as part of Children’s commitment to putting people first and living out our ICARE values. In some situations, team members would benefit more by receiving time off instead of funds. This PTO bank provides support for those experiencing medical emergencies or major disasters. The initiative will be effective starting March 27, 2023. This policy’s scope includes all team members eligible for the PTO plan on all campuses.

An $800,000 grant from the Charles E. Lakin Foundation will support the Reach Out & Read program in Children’s Physicians clinics to provide developmentally appropriate books to young children under the age of five during routine primary care visits. Patient families leave the well visit with age-appropriate techniques and an understanding of the importance of reading aloud to children. “Reach Out & Read is such an impactful program because of the trust and relationship built between the family and pediatrician. The ability to hand a book to a child during their well visit conveys the importance of literacy in a very concrete way,” said Melissa St. Germain, M.D., pediatrician and medical director of Children’s Physicians. “Children’s is incredibly grateful for the partnership of the Lakin Foundation which believes in our whole child philosophy as we fulfill our mission to improve the life of every child,” said Beth Greiner, senior vice president and executive director of Children’s Foundation.
