After preparation with a financial counselor, Julia became mortgage ready and closed on her first home this fall. The program is part of Children's People First Promise to prioritize the wellbeing of its team members.

Children’s Emergency Department has been selected as a recipient of the Emergency Nurses Association’s 2023 Lantern Award for demonstrating exceptional and innovation in leadership, practice, education, advocacy and research performance. Children’s Emergency Department is honored to be the first Lantern Award recipient in Nebraska! The Lantern Award showcases our emergency department’s accomplishments in incorporating evidence-based practice and innovation into emergency care. As part of the application, EDs are encouraged to share stories that highlight a commitment to care of patients, as well as the well-being of nursing staff. The award serves as a visible symbol of our commitment to quality, safety and a healthy work environment. In the Lantern Award application, our Emergency Department highlighted many initiatives focused on patient outcomes, staff satisfaction and safety and nurse autonomy through evidence-based practice. Multiple nurse-initiated interventions were added to an already robust protocol, all as a result of staff-led evidence-based practice projects. To meet the needs of our larger new ED, we implemented creative staffing plans and introduced multiple new roles including paramedics, LPNs and EMTs. Ongoing monitoring of many quality metrics allows us to continually improve education and processes to ensure the best possible care for our patients.
Children’s Specialty Pediatric Clinic in Lincoln has been recognized in Lincoln’s Best Places to Work competition, receiving the third-place award in the small company category (10 to 24 employees). Children’s team members accepted the award in a celebration at Haymarket Park last week. Lincoln’s Best Places to Work recognizes companies providing a productive, healthy and fun workplace culture with engaged and satisfied employees. Awards are tallied based on research and employee surveys conducted by Quantum Workplace of Omaha.

The pediatric mental health crisis is real, but a third of Nebraska counties have no behavioral health provider. Children's Outreach for Provider Education (COPE) program launched last week to strengthen and expand access to mental health care by partnering with primary care providers statewide. Its inaugural cohort of 45 providers gathered in Omaha to receive mental health training and education to help them better serve children and families in their practices back home.
Hubbard Center for Children Receives Engineering Recognition The Hubbard Center for Children was recognized by Engineering News-Record (ENR) magazine as the 2022 Healthcare Project of the Year and was a finalist for ENR’s Project of the Year. The project was selected from nearly 700 award submissions in 20 categories. Alvin Kobes, Children’s vice president of Facilities, and representatives from the HDR engineering team were recently honored at a ceremony in New York City. The project was the first health care project in the Midwest to use the Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) model. IPD is a project delivery approach that integrates people, systems, business structures and practices into a process that collaboratively harnesses the talents and insights of all participants to optimize project results, increase value to the owner (Children’s), reduce waste and maximize efficiency through all phases of design, fabrication and construction.
