We are excited to share that 2nd Phase of The Bridge, an Epstein-designed and engineered speculative office development in the Orhideea district of Bucharest, has been certified LEED Platinum, the highest certification possible. This comes shortly after Phase I achieved LEED-CS Platinum status in 2018. With this new certification, Epstein has now helped more than 60 facilities around the world achieve LEED certification.
Epstein is proud to be serving as the lead architect and engineer for the Illinois Tollway Maintenance Facility program! So far, three facilities have been completed: M-1 in Alsip at Cicero Avenue and I-294; M-6 near Hampshire at US 20 near Mile Marker 42; and M-7 in Rockford at East State Street and I-90. The rehabbed maintenance garages are more environmentally friendly, using 70 percent less electricity and eliminating the need to constantly run equipment such as snow plows during cold snaps.
The Epstein Community Foundation's (ECF) annual golf outing is coming up! This year, the ECF is teaming up with various wonderful organizations to help those in several different communities, including ACE Mentor and Back 2 School, among others. For more information on the golf outing and how you can help as well as attend, please click the link below. We hope to see you there!

Our Darrin McCormies, Epstein’s Director of Industrial Process Engineering, was featured in MEAT+POULTRY's June issue, sharing his knowledge about the evolution and use of robotics in the meat processing industry. Following his presentation at the Food Processing Suppliers Association Annual Conference in March, Darrin goes into further detail about how the increased costs of labor is forcing the meat industry to consider robotics. We are pleased to share that Renata Pajerska, Epstein’s Senior Lighting Design Lead, received an Award of Merit from The Illuminating Engineering Society of North America for her lighting design of the amenity space at the 600 West Fulton Street building, which happens to be our Chicago headquarters. Every light fixture was carefully chosen and strategically placed, resulting in a balance of functional illumination and artistic application. Congrats, Renata!
Epstein turns 98 today! In our quickly-approaching 100 years of existence, we’ve grown from a small office located within the cozy confines of Chicago’s Central Manufacturing District to a worldwide organization. Our offices now stretch beyond the Windy City and reach New York, Poland and Romania. Additionally, our list of professional services as well as the markets we practice in have drastically evolved. Today, Epstein provides a full menu of design, engineering and construction services for a client base that covers nearly every industry throughout the world. Happy Anniversary, Epstein!
We loved being the Co-lead Designer for this state-of-the-art green roof, and are thrilled to see that it's currently home to 29 species of birds and has more than 148 seagull nests! The roof was designed to also reduce energy consumption at the Javits Center while simultaneously lowering heat gain throughout the building.
We are delighted to welcome Ed Curley, AIA, LEED AP, back to Epstein! Ed worked at Epstein from 2005-2015 as the Associate Vice President of Client Strategies. Now, he joins us as the Director of Architecture, where he will be responsible for serving as the principal-in-charge for our architecturally-led projects, as well as ensuring the project delivery and design for those endeavors. We are thrilled to have him back with us!
We are pleased to announce the promotion of L Randall Buescher, AIA, to Epstein’s Director of Client Services. In addition to maintaining his role as the firm’s Senior Vice President, in this new position, Randy will also be serving as Epstein’s project executive and business development leader in our commercial, corporate and convention endeavors, which includes projects in office, residential and mixed-use market sectors.
