Epstein's civil engineering was once again able to obtain permit compliance from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) for a cooling water intake structure on the Chicago Area Waterway System. We are pleased to continue our leadership of and assistance in waterfront development!
According to Food Engineering’s 42nd annual Plant Construction Survey, construction projects are on the upswing thanks to federal tax breaks, continuing food and beverage industry consolidation and a desire for greater flexibility in production. Our Jonathan Scales, PMP, spoke to Food Engineering magazine about the importance of flexibility and developing sanitary designs. Check out the article below!
Engineering News-Record (ENR) magazine released their Architectural Record’s Top 300 Firms list, and we are very pleased to report that Epstein was ranked No. 288! Over the past few years, Epstein has seen significant growth on the architectural side of our business. This increase is due, in part, to our leading role in the food processing industry as well as our growing number of projects in Europe. Many congratulations to our entire Architecture department!
We are excited to announce the launch of the project website for the Northern Lakeshore Connectivity Plan! As a regional effort for Beach Park, Zion, Winthrop Harbor, Waukegan, North Chicago, and Illinois Beach State Park, we are thrilled to lead a great team. Kudos to The Lakota Group for the branding and engagement design on the project and to the Active Transportation Alliance to assist us preparing the plan. http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vMFZU
We recently attended the groundbreaking ceremony for a new 3-acre playground at A.N. Pritzker, an elementary school located in Chicago's Wicker Park neighborhood. We are thrilled to be serving as the Design Civil Engineers and the Architect of Record, working with Burhani Design Architects and Wolf Landscape Architecture to convert the area into a more organized and programmed space for the students.
We recently hosted our 13th annual employee BBQ, an event in which Epstein’s senior management embraces their inner grill master and cooks up lunch for our staff! The menu features cheeseburgers, beer battered brats and black bean burgers for our vegetarian Epsteiners. While, thankfully, the rain stayed away, it was still unseasonable cool, which meant our staff, instead of dining together on the picnic tables lining N. Jefferson Street, went inside to devour their lunch and commandeered conferences rooms within our office space and used the Epstein-designed Amenity Room at 600 West Fulton.
Construction continues on the new 2-story, 84,433-square-foot Peoples Gas North Shop Field Service Center located at 4025 W. Peterson Ave. As part of a joint venture with McKissack & McKissack and F.H. Paschen, Epstein is pleased to be providing architect of record and civil engineering services for the North Shop, which will serve as the prototype for possible additional Chicagoland centers. Our Tim Gustafson, AICP, is co-leading an APA-IL bike tour this August! The tour will highlight improvements on the City's north side and also include a discussion of how bicycle network planning and implementation is transforming neighborhoods in Chicago. Featured locations on the tour include the Epstein-designed and engineered Riverview bridge along the Chicago River and Manor Greenway. Check out more details and how to register below!
