Development along the Chicago River is booming, with multiple projects recently completed, some underway, and several more slated to break ground. In fact, along the shoreline, Epstein is the leader. No other firm has completed civil engineering for as many private development riverfront projects as we have. 300 N. LaSalle, River Point, Wolf Point West and 150 N. Riverside are some of our most recent projects; all of which aimed to be part of the long-term solution by staying in tune with the environmental and sustainable direction of the City. Our design is based upon a sequence of memorable and distinctive spaces that create a gateway to Chicago with architecture that is open, which, in turn, resolves the sophisticated security, airport and airline requirements in a way that meets the needs of both employees and passengers. Three arches frame the landside of the building, merging into a grand single arch on the airside, thus dissolving the barrier between inside and out and allowing the spectacle of the airfield to be visible to all who pass through the gateway, and recapturing the romance associated with air travel.

As part of our efforts in developing a design for the proposed O’Hare Global Terminal, our joint-venture team (Foster + Partners, Epstein and JGMA) produced this film. The video, featuring Lord Norman Foster, the Pritzker Prize winning head of Foster + Partners, addresses our design, it’s inspiration and innovative features, as well as its transparent, inclusive, welcoming and highly functional solutions. Designs for the new O’Hare Global Terminal and Global Concourse were recently presented at the Chicago Architecture Center by five selected teams. The entries are now on display at an exhibition opened by Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel. The new terminal will replace the existing 1960's Terminal 2 with a cutting-edge global terminal that reflects the legacy of Chicago's innovation, architecture and diversity. The joint venture, led by Foster + Partners, Epstein and Moreno (JGMA), has created a new vision for a gateway to Chicago that captures the city’s progressive spirit and its architectural legacy, while also rethinking the airport terminal for the next generation.
