Last week Trupanion published our third annual Corporate Social Responsibility Report – which details many of the ways all of us at Trupanion are helping make a difference in our work, in our communities, and in our world. In this report, you’ll find information about how we’re improving pet healthcare outcomes for pets and pet parents around the world as well as updates on our efforts around DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion), team member education and development, veterinary community support, environmental responsibility, corporate governance, and more.
At Trupanion, we believe in empowering individual contributors to drive meaningful change when it comes to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Our DEI Program Manager, Malcolm B., met with Built In to discuss how everyone can make an impact. Thank you Built In Seattle for spotlighting our employee-led diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives!
Trupanion published its' 2022 Annual Shareholder Letter from Founder & CEO, Darryl Rawlings. "To the team, I say thank you for your commitment to our mission to help loving, responsible pet owners budget and care for their pets. This year, we passed a very important and big milestone, and milestones should be celebrated. Trupanion has now spent over $2 billion paying veterinary invoices! We are making big impacts on the lives of pet owners and veterinarians alike. We have done this in multiple languages, in multiple countries, 24 hours a day, every day since the company’s inception. It took us twenty-two years to hit this number—we expect to pass $3 billion before 2025!" Kuyashii, Darryl
One of our Talent Acquisition leaders shared their advice to job seekers on how to stay motivated and strategic after receiving an application decline. The article also includes a success story from another Trupanion employee and their journey to land their dream job.
As many companies reopen to a hybrid work schedule — allowing their employees to work both at home and in the office — many pet owners want to keep their canine companions nearby and are taking them to work. “Our pets are becoming our families, and it makes sense they should come to work with us,” said Steve Weinrauch, chief veterinarian at Trupanion, a pet insurance provider based in Seattle.
We are featured in an article on Built In Seattle! One of our member experience managers, McKinna, shared why she loves the people and culture at Trupanion. "Everyone here is real, genuine, and honest, and we all have a passion for loving and caring for pets."

The $2 billion threshold was crossed on December 28, 2022, with payment in support of Oliver, a 12-year-old miniature Long Haired Dachshund, from Ontario, Canada for Gastroenteritis. The veterinary emergency hospital was paid directly within seconds at the time of checkout, ensuring Oliver would be home in time to celebrate the New Year with tail wags and wet-nosed kisses. In the past three years alone, Trupanion has paid out $29 million per month, or $6.7 million per week, equating to over $959,000 per day – or $40,000 every hour paid out to veterinarians and pet parents.
We are excited to announce that Trupanion has been honored in the 2023 Best Places to Work Awards by Built In, and we made the top 50 Best Companies and Best Large Companies to work for in Seattle. We couldn't be happier to make this list for the fourth year in a row!
