Thank you for your review. As you pointed out, the Territory Manager total compensation, which includes commissions and bonuses, is significantly larger than solely the base compensation component. While we’ve experimented with different compensation models over the years, and found that, despite continuously increasing our base salaries, our folks like to be rewarded for their productivity and enjoy a great deal of autonomy in how they spend their work and personal time, as the Territory Manager position is 100% fully remote. Coincidentally, our Area Managers who directly manage the Territory Managers have the same structure to provide compensation alignment between the manager and their direct report.
We have taken numerous employee feedback and engagement surveys over the years; during our last employee survey by Great Place to Work (Accelion is GPTW certified), 98% of our employees responded they were able to take time off work when it was necessary. While most surveys, including Great Place to Work, bring up compensation as something that could be improved at any company (we all want more money), excessive workload and being unable to take time off is not something that is a commonly addressed issue here. Our Territory Managers create their own schedule and part of the convenience of the job, besides plenty of PTO opportunities, is the ability to integrate your life into your work. As far as being poorly managed, I would say that people have different expectations of how they should or want to be managed. Again, the Territory Manager position is a highly autonomous position so you are not going to be directly supervised every day. Accelion is unique in that we promote exclusively from within. Our Area Managers, the ones who train, coach, and develop Territory Managers, have an average tenure of 4 years in the position that they supervise (and 9 years with our company), which makes them ideal to train folks who are newer to the business. The strength of our on-the-job training conducted by folks who actually have done the job successfully, rather than by corporate trainers is what sets Accelion apart.
