Pros

The best thing is that I was hired without any prior research experience, just a BSc. So it is the perfect place to get your foot in the door. Great learning environment, ability to make my own schedule and to gain independence and publications in research projects as a technician, great seminars and lectures by scientists from around the country.

Cons

Your job is at the mercy of grant funding. No bonuses. Took a very long time to get a raise.

Pros

Albany Medical Center is a wonderful place to gain experience and learn. It is a large, academic hospital with a diverse environment. As a Respiratory Therapist, you can develop a strong foundation for your future.

Cons

While AMC is a great place to learn, it comes with its challenges. Working as a Respiratory Therapist can be difficult mainly due to poor management. The department itself has amazing potential, but it is inhibited by poor management that lacks the ability to embrace their employees. Pay is also very low. Begining RT salary is only around $21 per hour.

Pros

AMC has a lot of opportunity to learn new things. There's a lot of trial by fire due to the volume of work to do, but by the same coin, it's a very stable job in a bad economy.

Cons

Things work very slowly due to the hierarchy of managers and VPs. The politics are constantly shifting your work focus. The pay and benefits aren't the best.
