Best place I've ever worked

Pros

Dedication to customers, great coworkers, nice office environment, and fair compensation. I have worked for American AgCredit for 6 years and we have gone through a lot of change during that time. That is a very good thing from my perspective. I doubt I would still be with the company if it had not gone through the changes. When I got here I loved the customer mission focus but everything we did was very dated. The technology was not as good as other places I had worked. The tech department was running its own thing and didn't like the Company telling it what to do. It meant we had poorly designed "self made" programs. Yuck. It's been a lot of change since then but mostly for the better. The new tech group is great. Changing the culture has been a big push by leadership and there have been resisters. I'm glad most of them have moved on. The environment now feels great and I am excited for the future.

Cons

Lot's of temptation for snacks. I have gained 10 pounds over the last six years. Really, I love the snacks (just a little too much). Work /life balance through the changes has been a challenge but I feel it coming back in line already (hopefully) and it was worth it to modernize this place.

Used to be a great place to work

Pros

Great compensation and benefits. And great staff to work with.

Cons

After CEO change, the IT leadership was replaced. Since those changes, thinking and input has been discouraged at every turn. That has made it difficult to keep staff invested in their job. Now it's don't think or offer your professional opinion, just await your marching orders. There used to be a time when we were empowered to make meaningful change. There also was a time when there was genuine concern for work/home life balance. It wasn't just lip service, it was genuine. IT management pushed out all good managers and absolutely ruined morale. Such a shame.

There was a time when this was a great company to work for.

Pros

Agricultural lending can be both challengingly and fascinating. Learning about the different types of ag production and providing a service that helps the producers succeed is rewarding.

Cons

High turnover, disgruntled employee that are afraid of retaliation if they speak their mind, and upper management that appears to be more concerned with saving their jobs than anything else.
