Pros

There are lots of great people serving others and working as a team. Flexible remote work. Some benefits better than others.

Cons

Mixed messages about it not being like other corporate jobs but there is often little understanding or flexibility about metrics despite them saying its not like that up front. They are open to moving employees around to different teams and roles to find the best fit, but several employees were surprised by being moved. Multiple employees reported that they did not feel there was good/consistent leadership of teams and departments. Opportunities for advancement felt limited to specific "types". Many employees talked about this. They are very open about being a Christian company, but it wasn't clear from the beginning that the paths into management meant leading teams in prayer in a way that felt like small group leaders at a church retreat/camp. It blurred the lines of work and faith and made for some awkward conversations. Multiple employees were told if they are looking for better financial compensation then they should look somewhere else because this is not the place. 401k match was awful

Hi there, thank you for sharing your experience as an employee with BELAY. We're pleased to hear that you appreciate the great team dynamics and the flexibility of remote work. However, it's important for us to address the concerns you've raised regarding advancement opportunities and the challenges associated with the intersection of work and faith. It's essential to clarify that we are an inclusive company, and faith is not a requirement for leadership roles. We are committed to improving our communication, leadership, and overall work environment to provide equal opportunities and a more consistent experience for all employees, regardless of their personal beliefs. We greatly value your feedback and time at BELAY. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors!

Great Starter Company

Pros

Belay does a good job of connecting clients with VA's and offering support as the engagement begins. If you have never worked as a VA this is a great way to learn the ropes.

Cons

Once the engagement is well on it's way Belay continues to take a significant portion of the monthly stipend but the VA is working independently. There are minimal opportunities for salary raises and pay caps keep contract earnings significantly under what you can earn as a true independent contractor, which is how you file your taxes. 1099.

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this review! We truly value your feedback. We can't be successful without you, and we know that. As you know, BELAY puts a lot of effort in serving both our contractors and our clients well. The nature of being a contractor enables you to choose how much you take advantage of the services and support we offer all of our contractors here at BELAY. Some contractors stay connected, and others do not, and that's okay. We believe we provide a valuable service for everyone we support, and that takes time, effort, and, of course, salaries for our team who works so hard to support our 800+ contractors. That's no small feat. Regarding pay increases, all contractors are eligible to request pay increases during their time here at BELAY. Be sure to reach out to the Contractor Services team for help in initiating this discussion. Some people love the freedom and flexibility that comes with being a 1099 contractor, while others find that a traditional W-2 role is best. Being a contractor isn't a fit for everyone. Finally, yes, the corporate team does get together once a year for a two-day "Summit" so that we can have some valuable face-time and cast vision for the upcoming year. That time together is very important for our team. We're not sure, however, that we'd call Atlanta "exotic." Regardless, we did increase our pay range for VAs this summer, so we hope you were able to benefit from that increase! Thanks again for this feedback!

Hello! We appreciate your feedback. Our website states that we offer contracted positions and this is reiterated throughout our application, interview process, and onboarding process. 1099 Contracts are a great way to work from home, provide the flexibility that so many of us are looking for in our daily lives. With that said, we are aware that a 1099 contract is not always the best fit for everyone, and that is why we are very transparent throughout each step of our process. We have been in business for over 10 years and are continuing to grow. We wish you the very best in finding a position that is the best fit for you.
