Pros

Nicest people you’ll ever meet will be on your team and you will truly learn more every day here no matter how long you’ve been here

Cons

When I first started this review looked so different. BELAY has changed and unfortunately I just don’t feel in my heart of hearts that it’s for the best and this “review” comes from tough love that hopefully things can get better. I know y’all see it too cause the employee surveys have only gotten worse since I’ve been here. Watching both of our CR directors leave on unhappy terms is a huge elephant in the room and I just am not feeling “God” as our value anymore, y’all. Believe that our team is serving our clients even though we can’t discount them if they’re churches anymore but all the same time the leadership team has taken away the stuff that made the tradeoff in salary (LOW) worth it to be here. A couple years ago our schedules were truly flexible around our lives, it was a DREAM job y’all. I still get to log off early for life stuff, but then I’m back at it into the evening and thingsre starting to feel like BELAY owns my full time life and I get to ask for permission to relax at night, turn off my phone on the weekends, or take vacations. I got denied saved up PTO around Christmas in 2024 because I put in my request later than other folks on the team and we have a quota. Then I had to cover for OOO teammates. Felt like I was back at my college waitress job. Feels like something has shifted because for this year my personal cellphones lit up at Thanksgiving dinner. Our contractors deserve raises across the board too not just the top earners, we got masters degree ladies out here earning us $50 an hour making $20 an hour. As a CHRIST lover that feels tough. And I know the contractors are 1099s so they don’t have all the same legal rights but I don’t like seeing clients get to demand a woman or a man or someone with a certain background, especially not when almost all of us in CR are white and feels like we just go along with it. I’ve pushed back on this and trust my manager went to leadership and got told to make the client happy and keep the client. I will say this job can be a lot of fun when we actually aren’t understaffed and running around like a bunch of chickens but leadership has gotta stop honing in on the consultant part of the title because this is a sales role, that’s what I tell everybody who comes to me asking for advice on how to hit their numbers. We’ve had some people drop off the board after struggling and it feels like nobodys telling them before they’re in it that this is all sales and you gotta love it to do it I’m giving this one star for now just cause I want somebody to read this and think about it but overall when belay is good it can be good, last year I’d probably have said 3 stars but this holiday seasons shaping up to be tough.

Pros

Work from home Plenty of work You choose your clients Communication can be great

Cons

Pay is not very high Communication can be terrible The person who is supposed to support you can quickly take the client's side. I had one person who supported me completely and was wonderful. But then I had another woman who was just awful. She kept asking how she could support me, but I didn't know what to ask of her. I would always say, "I don't know." She knew there was a huge problem with the client from the beginning and then threw me to the wolves. I would repeatedly set up meetings with the three of us, but my client would just cancel them. Holiday never held my client to anything, she never stepped in and took ownership. Then, when the client terminated me, Holiday knew for weeks that it was about to happen but said nothing to me. In the end, she blamed me and started lecturing me on how she was always there to support me. And yelled at me that I needed to apologize to her for claiming she wasn't there for me. She just focused everything on herself. All I wanted was for her to take ownership of an extremely difficult client. I ended my relationship with Belay shortly after this experience because of her. It was traumatic.

Pros

This job provides amazing flexibility, the chance to work with great companies, consistent pay, and learning new skills. This has been a life saver as a work from home job that is not actually a scam and I can continue to stay home with my children. I have a wonderful client/boss and don't think I could find a better position to fit into my busy life.

Cons

That being said, Belay does not really care about their contractors, in my opinion. They do not provide any recognition or seniority for those that have been there for years. There is a chance at a $1 raise after each year you complete. They will not reach out to you to congratulate you on the time spent working for them, or if you're doing a great job with a client. There is no room for advancement. This is not a company that you can build a career out of or move up in the company, and there are no paid benefits. Unless your client buys out your contract from Belay (for an extremely hefty price) there is no opportunity to grow in your career. Now if you are lucky enough to get bought out by your client it is a great way to move up in your position that way, but do not bank on it. Lastly, even if you are skillful and you were hired on, you still have to compete with all the other VA's for a client. You may seem like the perfect candidate, and maybe even Belay reached out to you and said you'd be a great fit for this specific client, and they can still choose someone else over you. It's a little disheartening to be asked to interview for a client and get excited about it, just to be told they've selected another VA.

Hi there, thank you so much for your honest review. It's feedback like this that lets us gain even more insight into what our employees and contractors feel and need from BELAY. We do understand the process can be lengthy even after joining BELAY since you do have to be matched with a specific client. Our aim to is to make sure there is excitement and confidence between both the client and contractor during the matching process so that each pairing is not only a skills match but a personality one as well. We are saddened to hear that you do not feel like our contractors are appreciated - we do our best to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of all of our team members but we appreciate you letting us know how you feel. As we are an ever-evolving company, we hope to continue to grow and learn all we can to help our employees, contractors and clients climb higher!
