- Despite all attempts to appear otherwise, this is a more conservative company. Not vibrant or full of life in any way.
- Inconsistent, constantly rotating management. The really great ones leave, the ones that have stuck around are sharks.
- Terrible employee retention in general - people are jumping ship like crazy.
- Incredibly political atmosphere - CEO and e-team play favorites, for sure. They claim an open-door policy, but I wouldn't trust it - HR seems to be there to protect the CEO, not the employees.
- Not enough devs, and a seeming inability to hire good candidates (possibly because of salary/perks issue - see below).
- High amounts of focus on bank partners' wants and needs, and not enough on improving existing product, which feels half-built, and never improved upon.
Salary/Benefits, etc.
- Comparatively low pay, considering industry averages and competition
- Forced and inauthentic company culture, with a near-fanatical emphasis on "health initiatives" - encouraging employees to take part in "biggest loser"-type challenges (gross), but meanwhile cutting things like weight loss surgeries and weight management resources from all health insurance offerings (were previously covered 100% before switching coverage), and they don't offer any type of gym stipend/reimbursement perk. Supposed "on-site gym" is a treadmill and yoga mat in a small phone room.
- Generally almost zero perks, and the CEO seems to disdain people who want perks (underestimating the draw of a company offering perks, especially since all hiring competition will likely be offering really cool stuff. See above inability to hire badly-needed devs, or retain good people). Catered lunch 2x a week that you pay for, laundry/dry cleaning drop off (again, you pay for it, and it isn't that affordable). Commuter reimbursement only offered to employees taking public transportation, although many employees commute from 30+ miles away, from where public transpo isn't available. Standard "5 year anniversary gets you 100hrs of PTO", but no one wants to stay for 5 years.
- Constantly playing music in the break room / kitchen area to promote a "fun casual atmosphere." Actually just annoying and tacky, and inhospitable to employees who might want to read during breaks.
- Company claims to care about employee happiness, but this isn't true, really. Even though the product we are building is meant to allow people to do their jobs from anywhere, this same attitude is not extended to employees who live in the Bay Area. Regular working from home is not allowed - weird and hypocritical, considering practically the whole Customer Support team lives and works in Reno, from their houses, and some management/director level employees only visit the office occasionally because they live in other cities/states. Work/life balance is terrible if you live far away - get ready to spend 10+ hours in your car every week.
