Lots of manual spreadsheets, internal meetings, micromanagers and fluff

Pros

Talented, friendly and helpful local team members in the US. The use of smart tools, apps and technology stands out. Flexibility to work fully remote. Decent employee benefits and pay.

Cons

Very high employee attrition. This is not surprising, given some of the following: - An awful lot of manual spreadsheets, internal meetings and confusing reporting structure. - Too many cooks in the kitchen. Every department here in the US has it's own boss in Amsterdam. Sales reports to someone else than the marketing team does. Customer success has its own boss in Amsterdam as well and they report into another VP than the engineering teams do. The HR team has its own leader in Amsterdam as well. The list goes on. And on a regular basis these bosses are not on the same page. - And all those bosses in Amsterdam like to be in control and think they know everything better. Even if your job title is Regional VP or Director, don't think you have a lot to say. You get directed and overruled quite often by the Sr. Managers overseas. - When looking for career advancement, is has been my observation that management often looks for outside new candidates first instead of looking at the existing employees. There are so many talented people overlooked this way. - A very high workload and pressure most of the time. Because of the high employee attrition, the feeling of being understaffed and overworked is a consistent factor.

Pros

Hybrid work environment Free lunch, soda and beer at the Atlanta office Paid parking in Atlanta

Cons

No real on job training - very much sink or swim Now, very few people (outside of the HQ) have been at the company for more than 5 years. Backbase brags of it's great 'company culture' - yet no longer actually seems to care about it's employees - it doesn't reciprocate the same level of loyalty that it expects from it's employees. Despite repeatedly telling us there will be no more layoffs, they keep laying people off, and in order to avoid the term layoffs-are terminating MANY people due to 'performance issues' or within their 3 month probation period - which looks very suspicious In the US, people being laid off or terminated are only being offered a two week severance, despite some having been at the company for 5+ years HQ in Amsterdam thinks that the US employees are overpaid (although they don't seem to understand that we have to pay for our own benefits, etc. vs universal healthcare in much of Europe) - rumor now is they are slowly making work conditions so bad that people quit or are finding reasons to arbitrarily terminate people in order to whittle down the US team to bare bones, keeping just enough US employees to satisfy banking regulations.

Pros

Overall good people on day to day teams who are friendly and helpful. Remote work.

Cons

What was once a vibrant team with strong culture is very much less so and morale is at an all time low. The North American side of this company has been very badly mismanaged and it is starting to show; the seams are coming unraveled and unfortunately the core teams are paying for it by working long/stressful hours to clean up the messes they did not create. Layoffs are beginning to happen (right before Christmas - when the CEO informed the whole company this would not occur a month previous - and with a pittance given to those who were let go) but the management that led the team into this place still remains. Until they really fix the issues, I would strongly advise staying away from this company.
