Pros

A lot of people at the company are absolutely wonderful and intelligent. There's a potential to get a lot of great hands on experience and people don't coddle you or block you with red tape.

Cons

As many others have said, the culture is pretty strict and forced top-down from David Morken. If you aren't religious, enjoy working out all the time, or have traditional family values, you probably wont' be very valued (long term) here. David making light of people's struggles during the pandemic and not taking precautions seriously has made many people leave, and attrition is very high at the moment. I was really excited to join this company as the culture seemed really close knit and supportive. While I've met many great people, the overall company culture just doesn't seem to align with the people who are working there which is why so many are leaving. Not letting people be flexible and treating your employees like children is ruining chances for hiring and retaining competent people, especially those in more senior roles. Teams were already low staffed for what was expected of them, with attrition its been near on impossible.

Thanks for the review. Sorry to hear your experience has not been positive. Our culture is designed not to be top-down but rather 360 where we lift each other up, celebrate our differences and promote an environment where Bandmates can be their authentic selves and feel a deep sense of belonging.

Pros

My immediate manager and that person's manager are great (there are three managers above them before you get to the CEO in a company of 700+ employees).

Cons

The CEO makes mandates policy changes in a vacuum without consulting (or even notifying) managers at Bandwidth. If you’ve ever lived with an abuser who springs things on you to keep you unbalanced—welcome to the Bandwidth work culture. One personal project of the CEO is ending remote work. In the middle of the pandemic he mandated a return to in-person work, lost most of the senior developers at the company, and today has no clue that this is why his company is failing to meet objectives. As if to reinforce this point, in August 2022 he mandated a return to in-person work once again (Bandwidth’s offices are a miserable half-wall cubicle farm that ensures low productivity...now with COVID). Again, no managers were consulted and existing policies about remote work were ignored (are the gone? still in force? No manager can really say). In short: anything promised to a prospective employee about their work at Bandwidth can be changed or ended at any time because only the CEO is making decisions about policies at this company.

Pros

Product is good and company is always growing

Cons

A few climbers in middle management who have no idea how to speak to people. I remember my introduction to one of them. I had scheduled a call with a massive client and this manager was going to conduct the call. The manger was about 7 minutes late to the room we were having the call in. So I'm stalling for him and when he arrives he grabs my lap top out of my lap and starts talking to the prospect immediately. He conducts the entire call with my computer that I was planning on using to take notes. Then at the end he hands me my computer back and walks out of the room without saying a word to me. A few months later they laid off my manager (Who was 8 months pregnant) and that same guy became my manager. The low pay and bible thumping was already annoying. The combo of that guy becoming my manager and the CEO not respecting employees enough to take Covid seriously meant I was otw out. He literally would not allow masks in the office for the first few months because he didn't want to "give people in the office anxiety." I have a spouse with a health condition that puts her even more at risk. The day I quit I wore a mask in the office and on my exit interview the HR lady interviewing me sat at the opposite end of the table. She was a cancer survivor who still hadn't gotten her hair back and I could tell she was nervous. Seeing my former co-workers lying on LinkedIn about how excited they are to be in the office 5 days a week just makes me sad.
