Pros

The other developers are nice I got to try more technologies Pay

Cons

While working at Bloomerang, I was performing well-received work on a greenfield project. About 6 months in, all work was scrapped due to an acquisition, and the team disbanded. As a result, I lost all of my work, that team was disbanded, and I was moved to a new team. Being remote, having to meet two teams back to back was an immense amount of social energy. The team that they placed me on was not using the same technologies I was interviewed for and were not proficient in. In forcing me in a position I did not qualify for, the burnout was exacerbated. This led to a “drop in performance”. Any voicing of this issue was met with abrasive comments about how it should only take me a month to get comfortable with a completely new product in languages I did not know. The response to this burnout that the company itself caused, was to terminate me. This was even after I passed a PIP I was placed on. 0/10 wouldn’t recommend. They pay good tho if you need a temporary position, but don’t trust anyone in a managerial position HR to have your back. It’s the typical “we care about you… until you’re not performing at 110%, 100% of the time.” My teammates were also always online after hours.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. While we’re glad you found positives in your team and compensation, we’re sorry that the conclusion of your time at Bloomerang didn’t meet your expectations. When considering team transitions, we carefully evaluate whether a team member can be successful in a new role. While we strive to provide the right support during transitions and balance the needs of both the employee and the business, these situations don’t always work out as we hope. Our performance improvement plans (PIPs) outline key expectations for improvement, including sustained progress, which may have led to confusion regarding decisions after completing a PIP. Ultimately, we understand the importance of setting employees up for success, and we’ll take this feedback into consideration as we continue to move forward.

Pros

The team members I worked with at Bloomerang were smart, resourceful, impressive, and kind. This was the standard across almost every department. They juggled multiple priorities and deadlines with grace and generally created a collaborative environment that you don't see at every tech company. I had the necessary tools to do my job and was generally kept well-informed of the company's overall direction. For better or worse, Bloomerang is growing and becoming a more developed company. Opportunities to move up or around in the company exist and are available in certain situations. The company generally respects nights and weekends and work/life balance. Time off is generous.

Cons

Pay isn't competitive with similar companies or even sustainable in most markets. Simply put, I couldn't afford to keep working here. Health insurance premiums are either cheap and sad or eye-wateringly high for reasonable coverage. Retirement benefits are similarly weak.

Pros

Our team somehow keeps a positive attitude and is always quick to help each other out. We have managed to bring on some very hard working people over time that bring so much to the company and deserve far more than what they get out of it. Work/life balance is decent. Employees are not expected to come in early or stay late in any way, and PTO has never been an issue to take.

Cons

Every decision Bloomerang has made within the last couple of years has clearly been for profit rather than the benefit or consideration of any customers or employees. Work always seems to be in progress for new products and features designed as paid add-ons to existing services, while common bugs and issues have been sitting for months, if not years, without resolution. The expectation is to provide workarounds for faulty and dysfunctional services and hope that customers will deal with it and move on. Customers are encouraged to fill out a suggestion form that feels largely ignored when it comes to bug fixes. Employees have been told that their feedback is not as important as the customer's, which leads us to feel voiceless when it comes to changes that need to be made. Because of this continued growth, employees are expected to be experts on or familiar with a very large and robust list of products, features, add-ons, integrations, and additional services, and this list is constantly growing. While growth in the company and services can be a good thing, expectations continue to pile on without relief. Burnout is frequent and compensation has been very poor to keep up with increased work. I'm very worried that this growth isn't sustainable with the rate we're expanding services, the good talent we're losing, and the ever increasing workload eventually burning out everyone before we have the sense to split up duties rather than continue to pile them on. We've recently acquired a new company and have spent weeks learning their systems inside and out. We have received no wage increases for adding on what is basically a separate company's support onto our already existing job. We were told during an all-hands meeting when we first increased our pricing that we decided on a 7% increase due to the current cost of inflation. When asked if employees would see a cost of living increase due to said inflation, the question was dodged and ultimately answered with a firm "no". Any wage increases given since this time have had a maximum lower than the inflation rate that they provided, and no cost of living increases have been given. Advancement is encouraged on the surface, although in reality opportunities rarely surface unless you're willing to sidestep to a different department rather than work your way up. Positions of advancement have been given to outside hires without even presenting the opportunity to current employees. Insurance benefits are laughable. I have personally struggled to find services that will even accept it, and have had trouble paying medical bills due to the poor insurance coverage and lackluster pay. I have been forced to pay entirely out of pocket for some services, and have neglected others because I cannot afford it. Diversity has been discussed but doesn't seem to be practiced in hiring. Switching to a fully remote environment could have been a great opportunity to hire people of color that may not have otherwise been available locally. This is a job I used to love going to and prided myself in being a part of. Lately I've just felt dejected, like nothing I do really matters here anymore.
