Associate Store Manager

Pros

Ethical company with good values, extensive training. First dibs on clothes coming in. Solid fashion and business education is given.

Cons

Upper management micromanaged leadership in the stores too intensely. It was impossible to do anything right without nit picky feedback -- often the feedback was not super useful in driving sales. Not enough training on sales, lots of training on buying.

Pros

They offer benefits to full and part time employees

Cons

This company is very much based on LOOKING THE PART. If you look the part, you will go far. If you drink the kool aid as some has said you will go far. The Upper management is kinda like a girl gang, if your not one of them then your against them, that's why they transfer them from coast to coast- state to state- store to store. Most of the managers are not local to the area they are in and I find that odd. They do have the policy of the customer is always right, even when they are breaking store rules- so be prepared to be belittled and yelled at for not buying a customers 2005 forever 21 dress. Another thing is all managers at the store aren't your friend, they keep a notebook/file on every employee in the managers office writing down everything you do or say that can be used against you in the future. If you are having a bad day and express something to them or they overhear you talking to another employee, they will write it down and use it against you in your evaluation meeting. That thing that was said or done will be brought up in every eval that you have even if it's something that no longer is an issue- they keep this on file (in your file) so they can fire you at any time since you are an at will employee. They have homework assignments, they want you to use your free time (not get paid) and do "style reports" or go shopping with a buddy, make a collage and other such things. (you will not get paid for doing this,- you have to use YOUR free time, time off and days off, but yet you are expected to and if you don't they will bring this up in your Evaluation saying you aren't showing company spirit) The company does try to come off as we are all one big family but NO!!! They are a corporation!

Basically a cult

Pros

-PTO/Bonuses -Working w/ clothes all day -First dibs on cute clothes for cheap -Good training system/concept, though it can be wildly hard to maintain as a manager and corporate expectations are unrealistic -Travel for company meetings

Cons

-Scheduling and hours: if you are a salaried employee aka a store manager, be prepared for them to take advantage of you and your time. You’re given a good amount of PTO but you can never use it! Scheduled for managers are very rigid, I maybe had one or two weekends days off during my 3 years w/ the company which is insane. I was also constantly working overtime and my days off but not being paid for it due to being salary and no one in corporate cared -Seniority is very important when it comes to “GA” which creates a cult-like company culture. People literally joke about “drinking the kool-aid”. -policies are inconsistently upheld company wide -the customers can be extremely aggressive verbally and physically and the company doesn’t seem to care enough about it. Employees have been physically assaulted and attacked in stores and corporate has the most lax, insensitive response and coaches it’s managers to do the same. -SO political
