Too much focus on percentages and budgets. The numbers must be met at all costs and they are ruthless in their approach to succeed. There is always an impending fear of loosing one's job and extreme micro-management. The latest trend at CHR is to hire temps to save money in benefits. Right now about 30% of the employees in the Chicago International branch are temps. This has diluted the corporate culture. You see a lot of new faces and you never know if they are a temp or a permanent hire. The morale is extremely low as a result of the ever constant changes to processes. People are constantly being moved around with no . They change people's job description and duties constantly. This has created a very unsettling feeling. You always feel like you are going to get fired. If you are not part of upper management's clique, you will never advance. If you are part of the select few you get promoted even if you don't know what you are doing. There is no direction, no forethought as to what lies ahead. Management is constantly making changes and trying things out to see if they work. I have seen people get demoded, promoted and then demoded again...this is demoralizing and humiliating. I was dismissed because my file count was low compared to other people. Never mind that I was handling complex shipments that require a lot of time to complete (i.e. hazardous, letter of credit shipments, etc.). Quality is becoming irrelevant at CHR and taking a backseat to speed...regardless of mistakes. This is the only company I know where customer service is not important. You are only valuable as an employee as long as you hit the goals that are set for you. Experience, education, and knowledge of the industry are not valued. Family life and personal events are not acknowledged. I saw people loose a parent or close family member and no one ever mentioned it...we found out everything through the grapevine. The human element is missing.
