Pros

Approachable and friendly claims leadership

Cons

Beyond burned out. Claims is a very demanding job but when you have significant staff shortages it’s even worse. You’re lucky if you work 50 hour weeks. Specialist level has to deal with everything including complex lawsuits upset claimants on auto losses etc. There’s not enough staff nor separation of claims levels to make the claims you handle more so for your particular experience level

Pros

You will be challenged beyond your abilities, which will make you better if they don’t crush you. Pay is on the slightly higher end of the spectrum for Insurance.

Cons

Toxic culture. Constant upheaval at the executive level leading to repeat strategy and cultural changes, usually for the worse. AVP and VP levels are pitted against each other, leading to unnecessary infighting and self sabotage.

Pros

This company provided a job when I needed one.

Cons

Management is cycled in and out every 2-3 years max. This saves the company money and creates a real lack of continuity and or personal who would otherwise know what’s going on or why. No investment into hiring, meaning training, so the company doesn’t lose money. There is no employee opinion survey, ever…. and there is no such thing as employee centricity. In fact, if you use a word that big, people will fell threatened and likely look for ways to get rid of you. I wish this was not true, but in fact it is…. Procedures are vague and followed when they’re convenient. Management from the top down where you will rarely ever have any contact with anyone else other than your direct manager.
