Pros

Relaxed work environment in some home, plenty of overtime

Cons

Some homes (Hans Herr Drive, Willow Street PA) is very difficult and the company has little compensation for the staff there. The hardest home in the Central PA area and gets paid the same as other homes with more relaxed conditions. Sleep over positions are poorly paid.

Pros

Great individuals, lots of vacation time, decent insurance

Cons

Truly lousy upper management. They think your only 1 IQ point above the individuals we serve.Self serving, lying and only concerned about keeping their jobs. No wonder the DSP's are burned out. Some houses are run like they are supposed to be. Others are so bad that family would remove their loved ones if they had a clue.

Pros

Good benefits for full time employees (health, dental, and vision insurance, PTO, 401k plans). Flexible hours for "floater" positions. Occasionally you'll have a good interaction with a resident and feel like you made a difference. Work is fairly easy as long as it's a "good" day. Small Christmas bonuses and the occasional reward for coming in during inclement weather.

Cons

Most of the time, you'll have "bad" days...expect to be yelled at by residents on a daily basis, and physically attacked/threatened at least once a month. It can be stressful and you'll probably take some of that frustration home with you. A lot of corporate mumbo jumbo and red tape to prevent problems from being addressed in an honest way. Bad communication between shifts. I've had one yearly bonus in over 3 years and it's apparently rare. You're expected to be here no matter what and find your own coverage if you can't, so there's not much room for sick days or emergencies. Pay isn't great considering you're being verbally abused on a daily basis, expected to clean toilets, etc. Almost no career advancement opportunities.
