Prior to the RTO policy, I truly loved my position with Adtalem. I was a top contributor on my team, highly involved in company groups and training, and preparing to take steps for promotion into management. All of that was stripped away upon the announcement of RTO
The team was told in an emotionless manner, within weeks of a previous round of layoffs that was already leaving people uneasy. The response from my colleagues was loud- people unhappy, worried, unsupportive, and unrecognized by the change. So many people with families and mental health struggles who were not represented in the in office culture theyre trying to sell. Following that outcry was months of silence and a severe lack of communication or transparency from upper management. If Adtalem had chosen to be honest and open about their RTO policy perhaps morale wouldn't be as low as it is now, but instead most staff were left in the dark and given the same response: "comply or leave." Many people were angry. I was heartbroken- and upon bringing up my situation to upper management that I was financially unable to afford the commute to office- I was offered no solution, empathy, or compromise. Meanwhile, a majority of my team stayed remote- able to keep their positions simply because they fell out of the 50 mile radius. I was forced to change the direction of my career, future, and plans. I feel as if I dedicated years to this company to not recieve any of that courtesy back. And while I'm no longer with the company, I now hear sad and angry feedback from my former peers on how the RTO affects their morale and work life balance. I saw Adtalem as a company I wanted a future with, but because I could not afford the commute, I felt like a replaceable number to them in the end. If the company rescinded their RTO policy and showed genuine care to its employees (TEACH Values), then I would consider going back, thats how much i loved my job. But unless that happens, I'm overall disappointed with the companies changes and believe people should be aware of the recent policies before applying.
