Everyone's busy, so if you want to learn something new, you can volunteer, and get experience. * The staff are generally motivated and believe in the cause (of efficient public transit) * there will rarely be times of boredom (too little work) * you will constantly be encouraged to find efficiencies * There's lots of social activities, if you want them * In the US, there's lots of "healthy" activities
Cons
* It's a thinly staffed company, so you're frequently overworked * There isn't a big amount of money in public transit, so money is tight * They usually have thin margins, so it's often hard to do the work within budget * There's a push to "cut corners", because projects are often over budget. * Raises are low, which is fine if you've maxed out, bad if you haven't * Little money is spent on tools and processes. So if there's an improvement that takes an initial investment, it's unlikely to happen, unless it's funded by a project.
