Pros

The people are wonderful, professional and everyone is willing to help. The reason to work for Cubic are the for the people, as they understand the hurdles you face to get work done and partner with you. Cubic does work a 9/80 work schedule so you can look forward to every other Friday off. If you are person who loves processes and is comforted by structure then Cubic is a good fit for you. Base pay should be in-line with your position. Time off is Flexible time (FTO), so if your manager and the project is caught up then requesting time is usually not a problem.

Cons

As of 2024 Cubic is going through layoffs so the workloads are heavy and it is getting harder to get projects completed on-time. If I had a wish it would be that Cubic to commit to SAFe and dumps Waterfall methodology completely (Waterfall using SAFe terms). After the contract is signed most of the time is spent on requirements and estimate gathering so that the teams can seek approval from leadership to begin work (months and months of lost time), Leaving very little time for development and testing, which results in highly defect ridden software. Very stressful environment to get things done in a timely manner. Due to the heavy approval process Cubic has become cautious so you will not be using cutting edge technology due to the cost overruns and overgrown backlog for them to take a risk on new technology, they are forced to use what works to avoid problems (Smart and Sad at the same time). My fear is that this approach will pigeon hole their growth potential for new technology in the future. On the bright note they have a new VP for CTS, I hope he can turn things around for the great people at Cubic - right now the people are just trying to stay afloat and working 45-60 hours a week. Benefits are average. There is no bonus program, so saving for a vacation is a bit harder. I don't mean for this review to come off harsh because I really did enjoy my time at Cubic, but as with everything in life nothing is perfect. Look at it this way if you new to the job market Cubic might be something you can start with because it does provide a solid foundation to see how a corporation functions while at the same time you can witness how corporations can be also be dysfunctional. I don't see them implementing any new unproven technology without massive oversight and unfortunately with the speed at which Cubic operates, it might be then considered out-dated technology.

Pros

Technical challenges are pretty diverse so there is opportunity to work many different problems sets.

Cons

Advancement is about impossible. Senior leadership seems to always be changing and the “good old boy network” takes over limiting chances for those who have been there done that.
