Pros

I have made some genuine, life-long friends since working here and full-time work from home is great.

Cons

Culture - In the beginning it felt like a cool start up; game room, froyo machines, week-long catered lunches, etc. The general vibe was really chill, and you felt like you were making a positive difference with our customers. You quickly realize that the culture here is anything but chill and nobody cares about what's best for the customer. Micromanagement runs rampant and the toxic positivity is sickening after a while. The company prides itself on their pillars of the Golden Rule, Ownership, and Innovation, and asks that we live by these but won't hold themselves accountable to live the same way. Leadership - Leadership tries everything in their power to downplay any negatives that arise. Feedback goes unheard, and often times questioned and judged, despite requesting that we give honest and candid feedback. People are genuinely afraid to speak out and leave real constructive feedback. They pride themselves in being transparent but it's a selective transparency, at best. A vague illusion to make us feel better about the decisions they're making. Senior leadership is either so out of touch with reality, or they are just really good at not caring about their employees anymore. Company Direction - It's bad. Mass layoffs every 3 months, despite constant affirmations that there will be "no layoffs." Decisions being made seem to cater only to those higher in command, and all us artists are paying the price for it. Compensation/Benefits: Compensation is "meh" at best. They really do their best to keep you making as little as possible while dangling a carrot over your head to make you think you can make any more. Benefits used to be great, but they've cut so many corners that health care is a joke and my primary care doctors, dentists, etc. are now all out of network.

Pros

Custom Ink for a long time has been a great place to work. Some of the best people I've ever worked with. Caring and engaging managers, great benefits, and a good work/life balance.

Cons

Beginning of the year they closed two production warehouses getting rid of everybody at the plants and moving all in-house production to Dallas, so if you lucked out you got to keep your job there. About a month later Art and Design gets the memo that they will be "right-sizing" which is an annoying term for laying off your amazing US team for cheap off-shore labor and taking the US team from about 180 artists down to about 20-30 people over the next year. The rest will be offshored to save what I'm sure is a substantial amount of money. Satisfaction and Art and Design are both currently in an off-shore pilot, testing out cheaper labor. So expect there to be no more Satisfaction and Art and Design job postings in the future. They went from being the community company to the maximize profits at the cost of quality company.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. Closing our production facilities in Reno and Charlottesville was a difficult decision, prompted by production costs and tight labor markets in those areas, but we tried to support impacted Inkers with generous severance packages and an extended benefits period through the transition. If you have any other concerns you’d like to bring to our attention, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at inkerfeedback@customink.com. Thank you for sharing your perspective and experience with us.
