Pros

DHI had great training which was helpful since I was new to the industry. They also had great process flow sheets so that the processor knew exactly what was needed on each file.

Cons

At the time that I was employed there, the department was severely understaffed for the volume of work that was coming through the pipeline. There weren't enough hours in a day to accomplish everything and complete the work free of errors. There was also a great deal of micro-management which slowed the process and efficiency of the workflow down. I understand the need to watch new employees during the training period but once the employee is past the training period, there should be less supervision.

We thank you for the positive comments regarding the training and are glad you felt the position was both rewarding and challenging. The mortgage process has continued to become more complex which is why we focus on training as well as insure that all departments have appropriate management support. These complexities can make the process less efficient, but extensive checks, balances and management oversight is necessary to insure all guidelines are followed from both a Federal, State and Agency level. These same checks and balances insure that we meet our customer’s expectations providing them a great experience. While these extra steps can in certain cases lead to overtime, we encourage all employees to insure they find the right work / life balance and we continue to hire new teammates to insure that this balance is obtainable.

Pros

I've heard from other colleagues who are on different teams that they enjoy the job and like their managers so if you're one who likes taking a chance than by all means apply with the company you may just get lucky. They will also fly you out to their company headquarters in Austin, TX if you are in the MMT program and that is really one of the only positives I can say about my time/experience working for this company. The CEO and CFO are both extremely nice people as well, and they have my approval but unfortunately, I don't believe either of them have a clear picture of what takes place in a good majority of their branches in other regions because if they did the management that's in place would be out of a job because they don't represent the companies' values.

Cons

The nepotism is out of control at this company everyone starting from top down are all related. You will be micromanaged like no other and they will tell you there micromanaging you and not even care. The management in the PHX division is literally a circus show, you will only receive help from your team lead if they like you and they will only assist the processors that they favor and in the backlog meetings you will hear it in their voice when asking for updates. A spectator who knows nothing about the mortgage process can listen in and observe backlog meetings and will tell you after their observation who that team lead favors and who they don't and that's scary! Also, DHI processes loans unlike any other lender and wants you to do it "the DHI way" and the builder puts unrealistic expectations on all members of the mortgage and closing dept. This company will sell you on all of the training and resources they have to offer but in reality, the training is very basic they will not walk you through the major systems you will be using on a daily basis like Encompass and Blend and if your team lead doesn't like you than GOOD LUCK! If you like a stressful, toxic environment, and management that is cancer to your life/happiness than this is the perfect place for you. Lastly, if you are crazy enough to apply and get an interview, I HIGHLY recommend that you record all of your conversations and put everything in writing upon being hired.

Pros

Everyone feels beat up and rotten, so Misery does love company.

Cons

This company is obsessed with micro-managing its processors! HEAVEN FORBID, you are an experienced processor because then management will expect you to walk in the door knowing the DHI way, and no mortgage company in the world processes loans like DHI. We all know that the mortgage industry has its language; well, DHI has its language beyond that for some unknown reason. If you are lucky and are one of the "chosen" ones, you will be fine, but if not, there is no future with this company. I wouldn't be surprised to see some discrimination lawsuits in the news soon.
