Pros

All supplies were given PD if needed catered lunches

Cons

Working here was frustrating because of how rigid they were on things.HR was unprofessional and very disorganized as well. It seems like they attract new teachers who just do not know any better. If you are a new teacher and licensed please don't work here, go to DOE- better benefits and a union.

Thank you for your feedback about your experience at our EHTP. We value the input of our current and former employees and are committed to continuous improvement. Regarding our HR team, we recognize the importance of effective processes. While they work diligently, we take responsibility for any challenges that may arise due to resource limitations. We are actively working on enhancing communication and operational efficiency. We believe in providing opportunities for educators at all career stages, including new teachers. Our goal is to foster a collaborative environment where teachers learn from one another. To better support new teachers, we are enhancing our training programs for a successful school year. Furthermore, we prioritize providing competitive benefits to our teachers compared to public schools. We understand the significance of attracting and retaining talented educators. Thus, we regularly review and improve our benefits package to meet their needs. We appreciate your contributions and commitment to positive change. Thank you for your feedback as we strive to create an even better work environment. Sincerely, East Harlem Tutorial Program

Pros

Great staff, mostly wonderful families and students. We had amazing resources and having 2 equally certified teachers in every classroom, plus counseling, ELL, and Reading Intervention support was amazing. Excellent professional development provided or paid for and technology was integrated into every classroom.

Cons

The hours were ridiculous. The turnover was very high. We had a lot of meetings and we had some trainings that were more business oriented (like how to give an elevator pitch about the school or what fonts to use) than school oriented. A lot of inexperienced teachers, which leads to behavior issues in the classroom. The curriculum was very strict (no room for flexibility or following student interests).

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and for your commitment during your time here at EHTP. Thank you for sharing your good experience with our staff, students and families- this is truly a hallmark of EHTP. You bring up some really good points regarding hours and we are constantly working to create the proper work life balance for our educators and sometimes we fall short and we acknowledge this. Moreover, EHTP seeks to offer competitive benefit packages across the board for all of our staff. Lastly, your piece about the business models for schools is fair and we would like to hear more from you regarding your commentary and experience with this. We'd like to encourage you to provide further feedback to jobs@ehtp.org.

Pros

You do get benefits. And the time off is ok compared to most other orgs.

Cons

SO MANY. They will overwork you and underpay you. They consistently add on responsibilities last minute. Senior leadership makes significant decisions with little input or conversation with the staff and students it directly impacts. Very paternalistic. They also continuously say they do antiracism and restorative justice work, but they continue the same racist and oppressive practices that you would normally see within other schools.
