Pros

Work from home, payroll is on time

Cons

Incompetent upper management, leadership with no vision, inconsistent management policies across teams, completely dysfunctional for the sake of money. Hard to find time to search for another role because the 10-12 hour days completely drain one's energy.

Negative place to work

Pros

Standard benefits just like every other PBM/pharmacy, free coffee and tea, and you can listen to music via single headphone while you work. Four day work weeks with 3 days off in a row.

Cons

Negative work environment. Currently none of the hourly workers are getting full time hours except for warehouse. No formal written training. One trainer or lead can tell you one thing and the very next day it is changed and then changed back again. This is incredibly poor leadership and very backwards for a large corporation. Favoritism abounds and almost seems encouraged by upper management. Money is wasted on inventory, labor, and mysterious nearly daily catered meals to the upper echelon. Six core values are posted on the wall but they are just words on the wall. The values do not go both ways. We are encouraged to submit ideas but almost all ideas are shot down only to reappear months later under another contributor name or by the echelon in the sky. There are few if any advancement or improvement opportunities for ordinary employees and the ones that technically do exist are taken/full.

Pros

Good group of people to work with. Smart, great staff that is completely unrecognized and worked to death. It's a paycheck.

Cons

Upper management has pre-conceived notions about employees at branches and it's difficult to change them, especially with a VP a thousand miles away who visits every three months and has no knowledge of what the employees do. Strategy changes often, without any notice. Communication is exceptionally poor. The company cuts back on departments often, and so you have to deal with HR people that are at a different site and have no background with your employees and IT people who often have NO idea what system you are working with, never mind how to fix it. Express Scripts and Medco sites are on different systems, and the long-range plan is to upgrade it, but there are constant delays and the dates move out all the time. I have witnessed egregious behavior by upper management which was never addressed. The bottom line is that the upper management of this company are not nice people, and do not care about the employees. The benefits are NOT good.

I made the right decision in spite of the Glassdoor rating.

Pros

- Culture is moving in the right direction. I attribute this to having a new CEO and CIO. - Although dependent on the manager you report to, excellent work/life balance. - Highly technological company and moving to position us as a true technology company. - Compensation is better than what I have seen/experienced at other companies. - I can finally feel good about utilizing my skills for a company with a noble objective. - Upper management doesn't play the "need to know game". Ask a question and you get a straight answer even if you may not like the answer.

Cons

To be honest, I do not have any cons at this point. Granted, I have only been at Express Scripts for a short time, but from what I gather, Express Script's ideals and goals are aligned with my own ideals and goals.

Pros

Flexible schedules, decent resume building potential if you put in effort, it's a job that pays you decent (not the best pay for Phoenix area pbm. I'd advise to get in and get out)

Cons

It's like high school, a lot of clique networks, trash talking and gossip. It's not unusual for supervisors and leads to have relationships with lower level techs. Express scripts' internal culture is typical office politics, it's about who you know and not your skills - you will not advance if someone on the 'inside' network doesn't want you to have that position. There are people in upper management who got their jobs the same way, which creates a lot of messes throughout every level of the company. CEO George Paz was too cheap and destroyed the company's reputation, which is why so many client contracts are not being renewed. Current CEO Tim Wentworth is a Theater graduate and running a pharmaceutical company, that should tell you enough. ESI is under several legal messes and layoffs, while many employees go into work everyday with barely enough work because ESI is 'overstuffed' = more layoffs on the way. Instability is ESI's moto. They're quick to hire, quick to fire, quick to ruin something good (it's cyclic at ESI for things to be good, upper management wants to make 'changes', changes make everything a disasterous mess, they boot the bulk of the 'change' and things get good again, repeat). Jump ship before it's too late, I don't see DOD renewing their contract with ESI because they've dropped the ball too many times. Through all the messes and treating employees like garbage, CEOs and executives still get paid their base salary of millions on top of their 7 figure bonuses.
