Great mission, not so great to work for

Pros

I had mostly nice, helpful supervisors, and pretty consistently great coworkers. The parade of adorable kids always managed to brighten your day. And working for a good cause.

Cons

Low pay and unreasonable workloads led to a constant churn in the organization. When you're expected to do the work of at least two people for such low pay that you need a part time job to still not make ends meet, burnout is inevitable. And then I got a new boss who added on another full time person's duties. I had been hoping to build a career there, but at that point I gave up and quit.

Pros

Learned a lot about clinical intervention, but only because I sought out most information myself

Cons

Absolutely no cultural competency. Developmental Trainees were treated poorly and many Practitioners did not provide care up to clinical standards Fraser boasts itself to contain. Even when I was more direct about asking to leave treatment so I could take my legally required break in the day, I was told I couldn't leave. DT's have little to no support particularly from upper management— My entire time three (8 months) three different people ran in circles saying they supervised me at different times, and passed me off to each other when I asked more questions/talked about many of the racist comments made regarding families in the Autism program. When I left, I voiced my reason for resigning as the lack of cultural sensitivity in the workplace and HR responded to me asking to speak further about what they can do to help. I was impressed by this. However, after they said someone would call me to chat, no one ever contacted me. There are countless services in the Twin Cities that provide higher quality, culturally competent, compassionate care. After leaving Fraser I was astounded at how other well other organizations run and how much of a priority cultural competence is in an industry predominantly serving people of color. Avoid Fraser at all costs if you are looking for a DT position. Someone going into upper management may be able to help change the system.

Thank you for your feedback; we are sorry to hear your experience was less than positive. We want to assure you these concerns are being reviewed by senior management and a new initiative is underway to emphasize cultural competency. We are optimistic that your feedback will improve the experience for others today and in the future.

Thank you for your continued service with Fraser. We are working on a new step program for Mental Health Practitioner. We hope these steps will streamline some scheduling conflicts and make caseloads feel more manageable while rewarding MHP II’s as they work toward licensing.
