Pros

I cannot think of a single positive thing about this company.

Cons

There was another massive layoff in July of the legacy NuVasive employees who were completely blindsided. The layoffs were done on a group teams call at 8 AM on a Monday. The meeting was added at 3:45 AM that day. The group teams call allowed you to see everyone else in the department that was getting let go. Microphones were muted, cameras were off and access to all IT systems was immediately disabled after the call. No questions were answered. Because of the WARN act in California, they were required to continue pay for 60 days since they did not announce the layoffs prior. Severance pay was cut in half and was stated it was a guideline not a policy, even though on the call the policy was stated as previously communicated. Emails to our personal accounts were not sent until THAT EVENING with separation package and benefit FAQ that were out of date. This company does not care about any of their employees and will do whatever it takes to save a buck. I would never recommend this company to anyone no matter what the pay or position. The layoffs are inflating their stock prices, but this company is definitely going to go under, it is only a matter of time. The merge went horribly from the beginning. It is obvious this only occurred for GMED to buy out their competition with no compassion for the NuVasive folks that poured their heart and sole into the company and their products, vision and values.

Great People, Not Great Company

Pros

Most of the people here are great. The majority of people are kind and awesome to work with. There are some amazing engineers here who I feel fortunate to get to work with. The products themselves are cool to work on and make an impact on people's lives.

Cons

The pay is poor and most people have been willing to accept that for the learning opportunity and the flexibility we used to have in Methuen. But flexibility has been removed (all regular remote work has been banned) and the culture has changed significantly over the last year. Tons of people have left recently because Globus doesn't seem to care about employee retention and the low pay and removal of remote work is taking a toll. Which not only means high turnover and constantly shifting teams to make up for it, but it's also just demoralizing. A new VP was hired this year and he has made the office a much more negative place. He is constantly condescending and rude to people and doesn't seem to value anyone outside of management.

Pros

Ok, it’s nice they bring food in every week; soft pretzels and ice cream on the warmer months. And finally they brought in Fooda so you can actually buy food not from a vending machine. There’s always plenty of Panara leftovers from surgeon visits too. Every holiday you get a company gift. Usually it’s a winter jacket or a zip up jacket of some sorts. One year we could choose tote bags when they opened up the gym. All this extra stuff is nice but the work environment can be challenging and downright abusive. It’s like we’ll beat you down all year but look we care. Depending on your team it could be a good experience. The little people (worker bees) are good. The problem is leadership and the higher up the chain, the more toxic it becomes.

Cons

The majority of managers are “yes men”. Very few woman have positions of authority at Globus. And if they are in those positions they fought and screamed and yelled and threatened lawsuits to get there, some kicking walls to make a point. Some did some questionable actions to get in those positions. But they all fought one way or another. Upper management, for a very long time, was tapped out; showing up because they had to. Finally, the last of the original crew has parted ways and now maybe Globus has a fighting chance. David Paul still oversees everything, even though he’s not supposed to really be influencing day to day operations but I get how it’s hard to walk away from your baby. The problem is they put people in leadership rolls who honestly shouldn’t be in those positions. Then they enable them because they’re yes men. It makes the working environment toxic and the employees are then bitter and hateful and further spread the vial, nastiness through the organization. When the employee gets it but the manager doesn’t it makes for a very upside down world.
