Appalling Processes/Poor Payment Plans

Pros

Great employees, everyone is pleasant to work with.

Cons

The way they make decisions on pay, commisions and general processes is bizarre and somewhat insulting. If you are trying to work at Go1 in any sales related role, keep looking. They don't give you 100% credit for any deal you sell, they raise quotas for no reason and cut commsions because they need to make up for lost revenue in other areas of the organization. Every year Go1 seems to pay less and less but wraps up the pay plan in fancy lingo to try and offset the ridiculous cut in pay.

Visionless leadership, weak culture, and a dated product

Pros

Some talented, well-intentioned individuals who genuinely care about customers and their teams Flexible/remote work

Cons

No real strategy. The CEO and leadership team are winging it. Decisions feel random and reactive, not anchored in any clear vision or plan. Dysfunctional executive team. On the surface, the leadership presents as “aligned,” but day-to-day it seems fragmented, political, and self-serving. There’s visible back-channeling and optimization for personal optics rather than company outcomes, most notably from the marketing team, part of which acts like its own kingdom and is dismissive of the rest of the business. Product years behind. The product is a follower, not a leader—catching up on features competitors shipped long ago, with no compelling differentiation and no path to becoming best in class. Internally, there’s endless talk about being “best in class,” but it’s disconnected from reality and shows little understanding of the competitive landscape. Culture is basically absent. Despite all the talk about people and values, the lived experience is that people are the lowest priority. There’s no cohesive culture, little trust in leadership, and minimal investment in building a healthy engaged organization. The only consistent culture is one of overwork and self-serving decisions. Worst of all, leadership protects abusive managers instead of protecting employees.

Recent Changes have Lost Go1s Soul

Pros

There is a good tech stack in place, and a promising future for a lot of processes to get aligned in a way that will set the company up for success in 2024. There has been a better level of transparency from Chris & Andrew for company wide comms over the last year. For those that are still at Go1, there are a lot of great people who are carrying the culture on their backs.

Cons

As a company grows from Start-Up to Scale Up, they have the choice in how to do things. They can focus on the money and make the cut-throat choices, or they can care about the people first. Go1 cared about the people, but after 3 layoffs in one year along with a massive grand scale change in the way of working in post-sales, I don't feel that I can say that any more. One layoff in a year is bad enough, 3 (plus various smaller bunched employee cuts in between) have made this a really terrible time to be at the company. People are tired and many (including myself) feel psychologically unsafe. As a result, this can make people freeze with decision fatigue or completely check out. Any creativity and drive to complete the work has gone to zero.
