Pros

The GoCanvas culture was unique and extraordinarily upbeat. People mattered most, at least in most matters. Compensation was fair -- from my perspective -- and management was atypically patient with staff; even finding new roles for employees who were not succeeding, giving hard-working folks a chance to find another place internally to succeed. The casual-dress work environment was genuine (shorts and flop flops in warm weather) and most staff loved that perk. Founding CEO is a very good human being with a fascinating, innovative mind. He has extremely clever ideas and a real interest in employee well-being and human rights equality. Team collaboration was strongly encouraged and a significant number of employees formed tight friendships beyond the workplace/workday. It was truly one of the best cultures I've worked in. I should mention that for most of the company's existence, the GoCanvas SaaS-based platform was far-and-away the industry leader. The new Product leadership seems very smart, as was the prior. I haven't used the product recently so I can't speak to how well it stands up to competitors today. But I'm guessing it's still atop the leaderboard. Lots of upside for young people.

Cons

Way too often "loud voices"(with typically good intentions) dominated way too many meetings. A repeated complaint was that mid- to senior-level managers would prepare presentations that were consistently interrupted by a very small group of senior execs that frequently failed to do their most important job; listening. Another shortcoming was that unicorn-like revenue targets became THE mission. Posters and tee shirts were made touting the $ number as THE company's metaphorical "Mission to Mars." Of course, all staff understood that a company can't thrive without revenue. Hitting the goal is an expected war cry at every company. However, just because a person can't thrive without oxygen, doesn't mean that one's purpose in life should be defined as breathing. Before you overthink this critique too deeply, note the strong Pros listed above. It's a good place to work.

I want to thank you for taking the time to write an extremely thoughtful review of your experience here at GoCanvas. Your cons are insightful, and I have passed them on to our executive team. You will be pleased, I think, to learn that this year our rallying cry centers around our customers, and that our strategic planning offsite in December included a 1/2 day where mid-to-senior level leaders worked shoulder to shoulder with our executive team to build the strategy for 2020. Thank you too, for the compliment on our LGBTQ-friendly workplace! Though we are working hard to make sure that our workplace is inclusive for all; women, parents, veterans, people of color, people with disabilities and the LGBTQ community. Thank you again for the review, and we wish you all the best in your career moving forward.

Pros

- Amazing co-workers - Amazing product - Great benefits - Up until recently: great culture - Able show recognition to coworkers via "Rock Stars"

Cons

- Loss of leadership ( 4 managers in the past year) - No opportunity for growth within my team - Culture has taken a nose dive - 0 transparency when it comes to salaries - I am a woman and I know I am making significantly less than the men in my position. Female leadership also seems to get the shaft when it comes to getting promotions and raises. - No career development plans - Not hiring from within - No one seem to care about processes and sales won't be afraid to screw your team over to get the sale.

Hey there, thanks for taking the time to write a review for the Glassdoor community. I notice that you are a current employee, I encourage you to speak with Judie our head of HR, or myself, further about your concerns. If you would prefer not to meet directly, I encourage you to reach out via OfficeVibe and have an anonymous dialogue through our engagement platform. We would appreciate the opportunity to continue the dialogue, as you raise some concerns that we simply don't endorse or support. Teams working at odds, for example, is not the GoCanvas way, and something we would love to collaborate on correcting. You are correct that the Client Services team has seen significant change in the past 6 months, we fully expect that it will settle and stabilize this quarter. We might agree to disagree though, on some points you raised, too. We deliberately look internally to fill open positions and delight in making internal promotions. In fact, we have in the last 3 quarters had 10 internal promotions. With regard to salaries, our HR team completes market analysis and salary audits each year, to ensure our salaries are aligned with the market and that there aren't discrepancies in pay for the same role and level of experience. Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience at GoCanvas.

Pros

Used to love working here. The people are great, even though everyone notable has left/been terminated by this point due to the K1 acquisition

Cons

- Toxic and frustrating work environment entirely dominated by politics and favoritism - Ridiculous salary gaps even though the CEO "assured everyone they did a salary audit and it's even" (it is not) - Inadequate sales training - A WFH policy you can't actually use - Your product/company feedback goes nowhere unless it's related to something that can otherwise "improve" a failing company culture like suggesting company lunch potlucks - Leadership has little understanding of the business and their decisions reflect this on the daily

Hey there, thanks for taking the time to share your experience with the Glassdoor community. We appreciate all feedback, especially the constructive comments that help us improve. I'm glad you once enjoyed your experience here at the beginning of your tenure, and I'm sorry to hear that the end of your tenure saw your attitude change. We would agree that our sales training was not where we wanted it to be. Our goal is that all GoCanvas sales team members develop into fantastic salespeople, not just skilled in selling GoCanvas products. To that end we have implemented 3 different sales training initiatives so far this year, to rave reviews from the team. I'm sorry to hear you felt unable to use our WFH policy, it is open to everyone, as are our pot-lucks - that have been a part of our culture since 2014. However we must agree to disagree on your assessment of pay gaps - for the same role and experience, our team members are paid equally. I would agree with you that there have been some changes since our partnership with K1. The injection of expertise and best practices has helped us all elevate our game. It really is very exciting. For some team members who aren't interested in this next phase of the scaling journey, or those who prefer a less dynamic and accountable environment, the transition has been difficult. Some team members are now working with other companies as a result and we wish all our GoCanvas alums well. Thanks again for your feedback. We wish you well in your future career.
