Pros

I have a job and enough income to not drain my savings too quickly.

Cons

1. Employees do not get lunch breaks. Receptionists are not supposed to eat lunch at the front desk where they work. I was told that *if* a tax professional is not with a client I should ask him or her to come to the front desk to do my job while I quickly get a bite to eat. However, even when the tax professionals do not have clients with them, they still have a lot of work on hold. So I end up working through lunch, sometimes through dinner as well, with no food or bathroom breaks. I've worked a 10 hour shift with no breaks. 2. The store manager micromanages, which is ridiculous because she is as new to her position as I am to mine. The tax professionals who have been working here for decades want me to do things one way, the manager wants me to do them another way, and what is best for the client is often a third way. 3. I do administrative work, I solicit business over the phone, I troubleshoot for clients and for tax professionals, I keep my manager informed of our supply stock, I take payments, I make frequent runs to the bank to keep the tiny amount of petty in small usable bills, I am the only one who cleans the entire office, I manage the scheduling for tax professionals, I greet customers, I handle the angry homeless people who come in off the streets, and for all this I am paid minimum wage and not even given steady hours. 3. The company advertises is misleading. I had so many people want in expecting their entire tax preparation to be completely free because of our TV ads for the free FED 1040EZ. 4. The company charges clients between $100 - $700 per return. I don't know why anyone pays that much when they could learn how to file their taxes themselves. The company keeps offering special deals to new clients. For the loyal customers who keep returning for years and years, putting up with the yearly additional charges, they never offer a discount. 5. The company does not train their people on food safety. Our coffee pot never gets washed unless I am opening the store in the morning. I'm not scheduled ever morning so it gets gross!

Pros

Learn about taxes and spend time getting to know clients and tax pros.

Cons

Calling and harassing these clients way to much and not enough hours.
